International News Black Lives Matter

Just think if it don’t stop now it won’t be long before right wingers will start moaning, I think it’s served it’s purpose and not time to move on although I do believe the BBC are going a bit to far.....although they could get rid of jug ears Lineker and make Ian Wright MOD presenter that would be worth watching.

Right wingers have been moaning about it for ages already.

I disagree. Too many are stuck in their ways and slow to change. You therefore need to continue to do something until it almost becomes the norm.

England is seeing that with Covid 19 cases.
HK Yellow, according to some well informed parties on here, you don't need to do actively do anything about discrimination and racism - it will just disappear over time. Just look at the progress over the last 200 years or so.

I agree about attitudes towards COVID-19 but do we still see this in a year? 5 years? 10 years? The problem is racism/ prejudices will never go away. Without making excuses and certainly not in @cassox meaning what if a white person is killed by a Black officer whether no option or in a manner that was in a similar fashion to the unnecessary death of George Floyd? I wouldn’t participate in any form over something like that but unfortunately there are thousands like @cassox who would then what WLM.....is certainly hope not.

They can moan all day long as far as I'm concerned, it's always nice to P**s off the closet racists and the far right.

Good argument from Les Ferdinand & QPR though.

So you will be kneeling every Saturday? And I hope you’re not suggesting I am being racist

I'm not suggesting that you're racist Bazzer, and nor do I believe you are for a second.

I just don't understand why anyone would be offended by it.

And no, I won't be kneeling on Saturday!

I’m not offended one iota, but a genuine question most of us on here know there are some thick people who will always have racist tendencies, but why after a highly publicised BLM protests and taking the knee and tbh a few militant protests from people of a BAME ethnicity, do people think we don’t know about BLM. The only problem I fear there may well be if this keeps going that emerge right wingers will start and we go back to square one.

Kneeling for 10 seconds before the start of a football game is exactly the opposite of "actively doing" anything about actual racism, though. It is no more than mindless virtue signalling. All it requires is a properly functioning knee.

I wasn't referring to taking the knee and I'd actually agree that things have moved on and we need to be thinking about practical measures. I was referencing previous posts from a couple of weeks ago where certain posters were insisting that any action is needless as eventually racism will just magically disappear. I, of course, am a great admirer of Pope Lee Perry III and believe in the strength of the human soul.

I'm not sure why anyone would actively object to people taking the knee. Don't like it? Don't watch, close your eyes (and your mind) for a few seconds and you won't see it.

I *do* agree though that it is obviously not an end in itself. If that is all that football clubs do then it would be pathetic - a sop to the right thing rather than actually doing something. And never mind football clubs, that is just a small subsection of people in this country.

Take a knee is one thing, but players raising there fist which represents black power. Surely that’s taken it to far?

people /players /whoever can do what they like and have their pathetic little protests but as shown by the QPR case if players decide they will not participate in the lunacy they WILL have their careers put at risk,QPR and Coventry had to do it all as one and the idiots STILL tried to accuse them of not caring.....its f*****g ridiculous and should be stopped by the FA immediately.....well done Oxford and Sunderland by the way(y)(y)

What is everyone's views on Alex Scott getting the role as presenter of Question of Sport? I feel there is a bit of ageism going on, and maybe sexism too - Sue Barker is in her 60s now, and this is nothing new - Arlene Phillips from Strictly, Carol Vorderman from Countdown. All three very competent at their job - but the TV bosses feel they are too old. Funnily enough though they were happy for Bruce Forsyth to go on until he was 154 years old - hence the accusation of sexism.

But racism? No, I'm not having that. Alex Scott is an excellent pundit on Match of the Day. I'd much rather listen to her than the moaner Shearer. She also has over 100 caps for England to her credit as well, so she has a pretty good CV. But of course the racists immediately home in the fact she is black, and she only got the job because of her skin colour, which is complete and utter b*llocks!
