Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

For me, our window has been based on a longer term vision, rather than a Day One view, which has an inbuilt gamble that the short-term can be managed while the new additions bed in.
If you take as the start point our experienced, successful "back six" from last season - Eastwood, Long, Ruffles, Dickie, Moore, Gorrin..
With Dickie leaving, then Mousinho replaces him to maintain that solid foundation. - Eastwood, long, Ruffles, Mousinho, Moore, Gorrin.
Our plan has been to then recruit/promote players (Stevens, Atkinson, Clare, Kelly, Jones, Lofthouse, Elechi) with the aim of slowly integrating them into the system gradually within this solid core foundation, with just one or two at a time alongside the more experienced heads to guide them along.
So, introduce Atkinson from the start instead of Mous, but keep the old guy involved so that RA can come in and out where necessary.
Put Long in at RB at first and for games where our defence will be under pressure, and introduce Clare in games where the FB can afford to be more on the front foot and/or when Mous is in for Atkinson, so he can learn more about playing at fullback etc
Similarly, have Gorrin in there, but look to find an alternative for less defence heavy games at first (Kelly in the first instance, but others maybe), but also develop someone into the terrier side of things, rather than the quarterback side.
Same with introducing Stevens in goal, with cup games etc, so that he is ready if needed to replace Eastwood.
Take the time to find the right back up to Ruffles in the market, and bring him in to the side later on in the same way to give Ruffs a break.
Then once these guys are up to speed, then maybe even look to introduce Jones, Lofthouse, Elechi or whoever, on occasion as well

The problem has come with losing three out of that core six within the first two games, means that we are having to use three of the newbies at once, and one of the others in a different position, and in a game on Saturday that was always going to be a high pressure one defensively.
So while it is tempting to write off these players, and decry our recruitment team, etc, etc, I think it is important not to forget how key the three defensive players that are missing are to our core lineup - and what the chances were of losing all of them this early on in the season - before we start aiming too much flak at the defensive six we had to put out on Saturday.
Of course it hasnt been wonderful thus far, but getting Ruffs and Gorrin back in will help enormously to restore some balance and robustness, and once we they have steadied the ship, then we can revert to bedding in the others, so that when we have players missing later in the season, we are not as exposed as we are right now.

(Saying that, with the potential LT absence of Mous, then yes another solid experienced head that can step straight in at the back, is now certainly desirable, even if it wasn't necessarily in the original blueprint).

it's just as i said the other day, if you want our model that you have to accept that there may be the odd blip and more time needed or it can even fail and that is the gamble you're taking by virtual filling the squad with loans and breaking up the squad at season end and constantly offloading your better players. There will be times when the conveyor belt does not produce the gems so If you wish to rejoice in the wonderful moments with Baldock,Roofe etc then you also have to be patient when things are not going so well.

it does sometimes read that fans want it both ways, if you want to talk about the fee for the likes of Dickie moving on then you also need be prepared for what might just follow.
People moan about the Premier League and it's money money money attitude and further complain when they field virtual reserves in cup matches and yet some of our own fans were following the same path by caring not if we progressed against Watford due to the ££££££ signs or lack of. Winning football matches builds confidence just as it did with our cup runs last season.

let’s hope we get two wingers, a left back, a right back and a central defender in before Saturday. Fingers crossed a player on loan to cover Gorrin too. Or is that asking too much?
Hahaha! Robbo has said hes struggling to get anyone through the door, never mind 5 players. Itll be more of the same, maybe a new formation, some nice passing, zero pace, and another defeat to a robust, organised team.

No, not anyone, getting the right players which is a different thing altogether.

I do wonder how many of the players that KR tempted Matty Taylor with we have actually secured. I doubt Sam Winnall was one of those given he's be direct competition for a place, who else would have given Matty a semi (apart from @RyanioBirdio of course).

So have those players gone somewhere else or are they still yet to get them?

The problem is the teams we’ve had success with have had star players along with players who were strong vocally the team that got promoted from the conference Had players like the beast - wright- clist- bullman- beano - Clarke they were leaders the team that got promoted from league two had star players like Roofe- COD - Lundstram along with players like skarz-sercombe- Mullins- Wright who were leaders plus we also had players like hylton - Maguire are team this season is missing some players that aren’t scared to Ruffle a few feathers tell players that are playing s**t to sort it out

We seem to be total rubbish year after year according to you yet we got to the playoffs final last year, how on earth did that happen??

... and he has'till then' to ensure the wage cap isn't exceeded- which is the issue that may prove to be a bigger stumbling block than identifying and signing/ loaning players in ?

I don't, not precisely no.... those who are ITK ( well, some of them at least) , lead me to believe that the wage bill isn't too far off the hastily voted for £2.5m cap
