Home Match Day Thread 19/09/20 L1 - OUFC v Sunderland

He cost money and is on a three year contract, so I bloody hope we get some value out of him. "On borrowed time" after two games and off in the winter...just, wow!
Well I hope he learns the position quickly. It might surprise you to know that Im on his side and hope he turns it round. Im not entirely sure signing an attacking midfielder whos filled in a few times at fullback and deciding that hes going to be our first choice rightback is being fair on him and is the best recruitment policy though.

The most worrying thing for me was the fact that we completely tried to change our style of play . As well as some shocking individual performances ...James H a shadow while Cam Bran just not influential at all. Clare , how did we pay money for him ? Early days but the three shanks in a row 2nd half just wow .

Clare wasn't fully fit and this was talked about before the game. Likewise, he has just signed for us and is adapting to a new position so a work in progress.

Play Long at RB and put Clare up as a RW or play him on the left, and then he can cut inside like Fosu did. He’s not a poor footballer, but he’s out of position, and it shows! That’s the managers fault, not the players.
Exactly my feelings on Clare

If not fully fit should not have played . Even so to kick the ball off the pitch aimlessly when defending as well as attacking was poor ,if Long or Ruffles had done that they woukd be ripped apart. If not able to play right back and we spent money on him then bizarre .

I agree he shouldn't have played. Should have taken a punt on Elechi on the left switching Long to right back.

Build up play too slow, ponderous and too many touches. We seem to get outmuscled and beaten frequently to the second ball. Henry doesn't deserve to be starting, he's been really poor since the re-start. I think the CB pairing looks dodgy. Long is no LB. Kelly is not a DMid. Clare can't defend, more of a winger. Cam is out of form and confidence. KR has got to change things and pretty quickly.
Yes but apart from that - all good?

Gunter right back , McCleary wing , two experienced, quality players e could have got in positions we require! No sell on value but would add balance to a very young squad . To have Clare and Atkinson thrown into the back 4 is questionable . Kelly signed when likely not to play unless injuries ...Forde as effective anyway .

Clare is no full back... He could not play one pass up the line. Shocking.
Someone has got this one terribly wrong.

Personally with how atrocious we have been and how incompetent our full backs have been is rather we went 3 at the back. Try something like this and have Forde and Cooper operating as wing backs.

Eastwood
Moore Long Atkinson
Forde Brannagan Mcguane Cooper
Sykes
Agyei Taylor

these next 2 games are perfect for us to try a new system on paper 2 teams with a lot less quality then us.

ideally a new centre back will be in the building soon.

Can anyone give an example where we have successfully played 3 at the back before?

Well I'm glad I missed this game. Oh well, the only way is up now.
