Home Match Day Thread 15/09/20 Carabao Cup R2 - OUFC v Watford

What happened for Watford's goal?
Was it 3 from 3 from Watford? or were any saved for us exiles, who cant hear on BBC radio Oxford.

Sounds like a dominating performance against a top Championship side. Promising. Shame about the goal at the end but honestly nothing wrong with going out of this competition.

Some real positives. Forde was excellent tonight, especially in midfield. I like the feistiness of Cooper and his running at players, real potential there. Feel sorry for Jack Stevens as he made some excellent saves tonight.

We really should have won and missing some sitters cost us as did the post/their keeper.

I watched intently. We played remarkably well first half and ok second half. Watford had 3 first team subs and 3 starters. We lost momentum with withdrawal of Brannagan and clare and defence became very unusual after Mousinho had to go off. Their keeper comfortably mom even before his 3 pen saves. Magnificent saves from Brannagan, Osei, Hall and we hit bar and post. Cooper, who i pressed, missed an open goal as did Osei. Forde excellent, Hall promising.

We just love throwing games away since the re-start. The woeful attempts at goal were awful. Should have been all over at HT.

Enjoyed the game, far more pace and fluidity on view. Forde and Hall stood out and Forde has got to start on Saturday; his dead ball delivery is first class.

Should have won .Their keeper was excellent though.

Lofthouse looks like a bit of a unit , has he put on a growth spurt?

On the one hand, for heavens sake. A bit of a balls up to let that slip. B*****s penalties too.

On the other, a few less games isn’t a bad thing especially in a tournament with no extra money coming our way.

We haven’t won a game of football in 90 minutes, bar the tinpot reserve match v Chelsea Under 9s, since Shrewsbury. We need to break that ASAP.

Some good performances, especially from Forde, providing some positives despite the result. Thought Stevens made some good saves and looks really comfortable with the ball at his feet - looks to get the ball moving from both his hands and on the deck which helps keep the tempo up. Sam Long is, as ever, a proper trooper. We just need to be stronger and more ruthless, and punish teams when they’re there to be put to the sword. Nastiness is something we really need to develop.

Let’s get the season going on Saturday.

The second half performance never reached the heights of the first half and we were getting deeper and deeper as the half wore on which surprises me as
we were up against a very ordinary Watford side who were playing with ten men for the last 20 mins or so. Not great and as soon as Brannagan went off we never competed in the
middle of the park. That horrible habit crept back in - giving away set pieces ( cheap free kicks ) and it was no surprise we conceded in all honesty.
