Whatever happens we will still be giving Henry our full support the next time he plays for OUFC though, won't we.
Of course. With the benefit of hindsight, it wasn't a great decision on his part but if Taylor had got there and put it in we would be praising Henry for being unselfish! The whole team was below par really all through the playoffs, not any one person's 'fault'.

Henry made a similar pass against Ipswich away, Taylor scored the only goal in a very tight game. If Henry hadn't made the pass on that occasion, we would of unlikely been in the play-offs anyway. I'm very happy that he contributes AND scores goals.

To be fair, from that photo, you do hav e to say thats great positioning by the keeper. Theres not a huge amount to aim at, he’s almost daring Henry to go for the near post.

I was just thinking the same - he's got his positioning spot on there.

There's still a gap for a hard and low effort either near post or far post (or through his legs) but he's made it as hard as he possibly can for Henry.

That being said - it's still an easier finish than it is a pass. Especially when that defender is Anthony Stewart, who's a freakish athlete at League One level and has already made two last gasp clearances in the game!

It was a bad decision by Henry, but he and we'll get over it.

JUST f*****g LEATHER IT.

There is a parrallel universe where we're in the championship right now.

Or, imagine a teammate is standing by the post to keeper’s left (Henry’s right) and just pass it to them. A swift, low, sidefoot. No way the keeper’s getting that. Or, smash it low through his legs. Or, hit it high into the roof of the net. Or keep dribbling and make the keeper commit. Just please, please don’t pass it.

Please.

It's about getting the right blend of players. Mous is a leader on and off the pitch, and Mackie gave so much more than minutes on the pitch. Henry, Taylor and Eastwood have the experience but are quieter, and there is value in bringing in one or two players who are natural leaders to support what is often a very young side.

I don’t think age (‘what is often a very young side’) has anything to do with it tbh.

Dickie (who is very young for a CB) became captain, some say simply so he could avoid the bookings which would see him suspended, but in doing so, to me, showed excellent leadership. Cameron Brannigan seems one of the leaders both on and off the pitch by all accounts (and reading into the behind the scenes videos) setting the standards at the training ground as well as bossing games and taking them by the scruff of the next, when he’s on form. Cadden also seemed something of a leader to me. All are in their early twenties. By contrast, the likes of Henry/Taylor don’t seem as vocal, more individualistic (although Taylor is very popular in the squad from what I’ve heard) and they are much older/more experienced.

Would a 24 year old Roy Keane be enough of a leader for us? Would a 35 year old Nile Ranger or Ravel Morrison? Leadership (especially in football) isn’t really about age, it’s about character, personality and style.

I agree with whoever said Gorrin isn’t a leader just because he goes around smashing into tackles - it takes more than that. For me, Mousinho, Dickie, Brannigan and to a lesser extent Mackie are the leaders of our current side. So yes, if we lose Dickie & Cam then we will need to sign some more leaders, but there’s no reason whatsoever for them to be 34 not 24.

Completely agree that age isn’t our biggest worry. Our biggest and most vocal leaders in 15/16 were probably Baldock (22), MacDonald (25), Hylton (26) and Wright (29). Plus a strong extrovert in Maguire (26) and a steady and reliable pro who gave others confidence in Skarz (26). In fact, we didn’t have a single player over the age of 30 when that season kicked off. Wright and Mullins (another good vocaliser) both turned 30 during the campaign.

Being vocal and unafraid to grab people by the collar, take responsibility and drag your teammates out of the trenches with you when it’s going to pot has little to do with age. Add a couple of players like that and it’ll make the world of difference. Fingers crossed we are looking for them.
