This post from August 2019 somehow got into the wrong thread. Has nothing to do with JC.

Has sadly passed away aged 85. Was a member of the World Cup winning squad in 1966.

He also did a great job as manager of the Republic Of Ireland.

What a character and what a life. RIP Jackie.

A football icon for me, don revie turned him in to a World Cup winner and a Leeds United legend.another star of 66 that we have lost

Nooooo really saddened to hear this real legend RIP Jackie and thanks for all the memories. It will still be over the line in heaven.

We were at Quincy Market in Boston the day after the Republic had played a pre-World Cup friendly in the US when Carlton came in with a couple of others and sat at the same Oyster bar we were eating at. My (late) mother-in-law went over to have a word; have to say he was extremely gracious, although her strong northeast accent probably scared him half to death. I decided against going across for a word, having been underwhelmed by the crushing style of his Middlesbrough side. RIP Jack.

Another one of the Legendary Leeds side of the 1970s is sadly no longer with us. Just read he spent his entire 21-year playing career at Leeds and made a joint club record 773 appearances. Plus he was a World Cup Winner! As well as Ireland’s greatest manager.

Not many people are legends in England and Ireland!

RIP Big Jack.

The passing of another from that great 1966 team and in my opinion every member of that team should have been knighted.
Rest in peace Jackie.

Just six surviving members of that team. 54 years ago today he was playing against Uruguay on the opening day of the 1966 tournament.

Edit: Just realised it's only five.

Very sad news, but what a life he led! World Cup Winner, took an international team to tournaments... Achieved a lot. RIP

RIP Jack, true gentleman and countryman.
Love the multiple replays of Ray Houghton`s goal vs Italy at the WC.

R.I.P . There can’t be many of the 66 winning side left now. Bobby Charlton, Geoff Hurst, Nobby Stiles and I think George Cohen. Players like Jack Charlton were among those who I remember as a little kid when I first got in to football.

I’ve heard that Jack Charlton used to ‘pay’ for his pints in pubs in Ireland by cheque, knowing full well the publicans would never cash the cheque as it was a means of showing off to friends that Jack had visited. He learned some wily tricks from the notoriously tight Yorkshire folk!

Farewell, Jack. A great character from the game.

Roger Hunt is also still with us (as is George Cohen).
