I guess water breaks is due to games being played in the summer heat.
But it has been raining in some of the matches I have watched and a lot of them have been in the evening anyway - it's a quick 3 minute team coaching session in the middle of the half (a la Stevenage). Wouldn't it have been better to give the ref some discretion so that they are only taken when needed? It's just another thing that breaks up the flow of the game otherwise.

Water breaks are in due to the thought process that lack of training will have a big impact on stamina.

For sure. When did that kind of logic apply to the PL or EFL though?

..and anything that could put a spanner in Westley's works is fine by me!

Given the way that TV money is divvied up between the leagues I'd put these play-offs in the "must win" category. As long as we were sensible with our spending, one season of Championship football would really help the club financially.

Exactly how I feel about it. We've had a fun season regardless with the cup runs, good football and those five wins on the bounce. As much as I'd like to get promoted, it's not the be all and end all for me. League 1 is a fun division to be in with plenty of new teams to play each season, we can be competitive and with our friends from down the A420 to take six points off next season. I fear that teams going up into the Championship nowadays tend to get battered from pillar to post - Luton cantered the league with 94 points and yet have spent pretty much all of this season in the relegation places. I feel the journey is more fun than the destination. The second tier is a different beast to the one we were last in back in 1999.

As long as we're still in the tie in some capacity, I'll be fairly content. Our 1-1 draw at Fratton Park was commendable earlier this season but the two results before that were the awful 3-0 and 4-1 defeats. Let's make sure that we get in at 'half time' with something to play for in the home leg.
I knew some will say that it lacks ambition but I’d rather be in a league we can be competitive in than struggle for the whole season and come straight back down. To be honest I’m not sure its worth it?

At least there is one person on the Portsmouth forums who talks sense:

This is what we're up against tomorrow. When you look at their fully fit squad, man for man they should walk these play offs. I also didn't realise the run they were on before the virus took hold. This video speaks for itself. Not feeling positive about this now.

me too ...a life long addiction.... then forced to go cold turkey
It's only twenty minutes down the A3 for the Loungers. I don't care how comfortable the couch will be, it's just not the same. (even if we can have a drink while watching!)

I watched that ol boys youtube play off preview and he hardly gives browne a mention or woodburn?! it hink brownes instrumental in us getting a result great player and woodburn still at Liverpool at his age shows how much they think of him great player.

League 1 is Oxford's level really. We can compete here and will essentially play a mix of the same sides who are a bit big for League 2 but look like small fry in the Championship - Swindon, Peterborough, Southend, Plymouth, Rotherham etc. However, even a season of drubbings can be lucrative for the club at a level up with big away followings, more Sky TV money heading our way and more home fans through the gates.

The risk is not investing too heavily to compromise your position. Spend only a fraction, like Norwich have in the PL this season, accept the dogfight and don't get too disappointed with a relegation knowing you've got the banked capital to give the league below another good go again. Rotherham's model seems to be that nowadays. They were relegated in 2016-17 with a mere 23 points and 33 defeats in 46 league games only to win the League 1 playoffs the season after. Relegation followed again with promotion this season. I imagine their coffers look pretty tidy despite the yo-yo-ing.

We've been down the financial trouble route in the past and we don't want to go there again.

Coincidentally today’s Bargain Hunt began with antiques expert Christina Trevanion standing outside Fratton Park and wearing a Pompey scarf.

If that’s not a bad omen, I don’t know what is.

From what I remember of various competitive antique programs on the telly, if Christina Trevanion is on them she loses more often than she wins! So perhaps not. :)
