International News Covid-19 .....

After having today off while work meetings took place I am back in tomorrow and then on to do work in Purfleet, Hayes etc which is non essential and companies which shouldn’t be open. Company gets away with it as part of it comes under key work while a lot of it doesn’t, company has said it will carry on till its forced not to.

Heard others saying the same about their work. Businesses are putting profit over people’s lives, they don’t even have to pay the wages of their workers who are not in.

single male with hand sanitiser would like to meet single female with toilet rolls for very clean fun

We are now at 422 deaths in UK
Compared to 631 deaths in Italy for the same period.

Yes it has fluctuated a little but the past couple of days have been fewer deaths than at the same stage in Italy.
50% less than Italy at the same day.

I was due to start major dentistry work yesterday I had booked a week off work to get it done. That was cancelled yesterday as they are only allowed to do emergency work only. Got to wait to its all over.
Join the club, I should have been having 3 teeth out and implants going in - cantilever bridge work to follow. All cancelled but, not until after I had paid half up front!

Luckily I haven’t paid anything. I was due to get the bill yesterday at my 1st appointment. I can beat you on 3 out as I was having 6 out then implants. Who knows when it’s going to get done now.

My dentist was not best pleased, he looks forward to this kind of work (I know, perverse!) He is also worried about the effect of not getting the work done. I'd already lost one tooth, hence the bridge work, and then one marked for extraction broke leaving just a stump and root filling. Who knows what else could go wrong.
This sodding virus is really, really pissing me off!

I left 1 of mine in Costa Rica hence now I want it done. Teach me for being a coward and putting it off when I knew it needed doing about 6 months ago. Another factor for waiting was the cost. Now I have the money bloody virus ? steps in.

I wonder how many others are saying something similar, all over the UK - the World. How many lives are being changed?

As annoying as it is personally it bears into significance with what’s happening in the world today.
Each country and the whole world will change, I feel both short term and long term.

One thing I feel will or has to change short to long term is bodily contact. When I say this, I mean shaking hands, in some countries kissing on the cheeks, eating with hands (very common here) and other physical actions and greetings.

So...this is the predictable result of all that panic buying and stockpiling:

"A quote from a refuse collector:
“In the past 2 weeks, we have seen a 30% increase in Food Waste collected from households, the additional weight is mainly fresh food that has gone out of date and was never even touched, some still in wrappers. Refuse and Recycling tonnages are on a par with post Christmas collections.
That's the shameful and selfish truth of panic buying.”

And all at a time when Local Authorities are going to seriously struggle to make as many collections or collections on time due to staff shortages. The sites that handle it are also closing down and running at reduced capcity.

At a time when there are those in this country, including those who are working to save the lives of those who are becoming ill, who are genuinely struggling to put food on the table. As well as those who are isolating and cant get food delivery slots from Supermarkets for love nor money.

Food waste is pretty abhorrent at the best of times, but I hope those who now have overflowing bins full of rotting food waste are made sick by the stench and their homes are invaded by pests and vermin that will be attracted to it....you selfish, shameful f**ktards.

Yet another shameful example.of people unable or uncaring about the consequences of their actions...take some responsibility for your impact you tw@ts!

As the Stranglers once said...Something better change.

I wonder whether any thoughts have been put together behind the scenes as to whether and how the steadily growing cohort of people who have had the virus and come out the other side can be utilized for the good of the nation over the coming weeks?

My sentiments entirely.
However, some good is emerging.
Locally to me there have been deliveries of food by local businesses that had surpluses. Our local pub owner made personal deliveries to a local company with disabled employees who can’t currently work.
My accountant has been put on unpaid leave and despite having two children she has to care for is at the forefront of helping elderly people in the area who’ve been confronted by empty shelves in the supermarkets.
The toilet roll shortage amazed me. Then I realised the closure of the pubs meant there would be increased demand for beer elsewhere.
The upsurge of local food shops doing well might also be a sign that the consumer is tiring with the supermarkets. Anyone notice that three for two in shops is all but gone?
