How to complete the season

End the lot now, null and void the entire football pyramid, small price for “u’s” to pay so those Bin Dipper Scousers don’t get their hands on the Premier shite Title.

A lot will depend on people's financial situation at the time.
But that could be anything up to 12 months maybe longer so I would think people who aren’t ST holders should be able to find £20 but as you say the financial situation at the time, could be bad for everyone so who knows, but I would like to think with the notice we would be given the first home match may make people get the money for the match

depends if the people (some of em) work in hospitality or entertainment they'll be hit hard in the pocket.... gonna be tight for self employed if work dries up (£90 ssp) or employed (80% of wage up to £2.5k per month) which will need to be processed before being paid ( universal credit is a disaster- if that's any indicator, taking 3 times longer or more than it should to be assessed/ paid when granted)

As league cup winners we would of won the UEFA cup in 87 wouldn’t we?

Is that correct? The reason I ask is the year Charlton were in the playoffs as a 'higher division' team, we finished 1 place above them, thanks to our win at Luton (for those who don't remember it, we needed a win to stay up, Luton were about 5th in the top flight, had a plastic pitch, and had banned away fans. It was a difficult place to go. We were 2-0 up with about 4mins to go and safety, before Luton scored twice to make it 2-2 in the last minute. Dean Saunders then made himself a club legend by scoring for 3-2 deep into stoppage time, keeping us up).

Now, in my head, only 2 went straight down, and 3rd bottom went into the playoff, not 3 down and 4th bottom. The reason I think this? Our highest ever league finish is 18th in the top flight, which we did twice, 85/6 and 86/7, both 4th from bottom.

Please don't tell me I've had this wrong for 35 years!!! ? ?

I mean, you're correct that our highest ever finish was 18th in the top flight. But in both seasons, that made us 5th from bottom.
In 85/86, only the bottom three went down, so we actually had a cushion (in terms of teams - there was only one point between us and the relegation places!); In 86/87, Villa, Leicester & Manchester City went down automatically, and Charlton ended up in the playoff which they then won.

In 87/88, there were only 21 teams in the division, so then 18th would have meant 4th from bottom.......but we rendered that irrelevant by finishing a sound 21st!

No !! We would have entered and won the European Cup Winners Cup. I believe it was renamed the UEFA Cup in the mid nineties. Either way those Scousers deprived us of hell of an adventure. I have a healthy hatred for them ever since (if you haven’t noticed ?)

All these years thinking we'd finished 4th from bottom, but we had finished 5th bottom ?. Worth a drink to celebrate bring better than I thought. ?

No their used to be 3 European competitions back then, European cup, UEFA cup and the cup winners cup. League champions went into the European cup, runners up and league cup winners went into the UEFA cup and the FA cup winners went into the cup winners cup. The cup winners cup was very much the runt of the litter so you actually got into a more prestigious competition (which back then must of been a bastard to win given that you had the runners up from all of Europe’s premier competitions in it) from winning the less prestigious domestic competition.

All of which would of made our victory in it even more glorious and will make them voiding Liverpool’s title even funnier.

Edit. Just checked we would of beaten either Porto or Bayern Munich in the uefa cup final in 87, although the cup winners cup was won by the brilliant Ajax side of Van Basten et al, so winning either would of been a great achievement.

Apparently if you’re on universal credit ( of which I’m not ) you get another 1k a year....not bad for some

Thanks @holdsteady for the clarification, must be my age ? Either way we would have held our own against anyone if we would have kept that 1986 team together.

If there was no other way to complete the season and they were to play the remaining games behind closed doors. I'd happily pay £20 a match to watch on ifollow. Maybe the club's could offer free streaming for those who are not getting paid. At least the club would get some financial benefit from this.

The problem is the players etc. They would have to be segregated, tested and kept in strict isolation. It would be quite a major commitment from them, away from families, friends etc. Otherwise sooner or later one of them will get it and the whole team’s out.
As far as I can see the AFL going ahead in Oz is pure window dressing and within a month it will be off when players and coaches start getting it.

Im surprised the powers that be haven't come up with something like a 'conference call/ skype type link up with the manager of each club involved in a dartboard, one dart, closest to the bullseye , shoot out? .... decides all outstanding matches of the season , playoffs, cup matches and finals ... season and cup competitions all sorted ;) ;) ;)

the prima donnas of the PL wont have to play (m)any games either

Do you think?

I felt the UEFA Cup was very much the third choice (although I would’ve been perfectly pleased to win it in 1987!)

I wouldn’t be brave enough to tell any Aberdeen fans their CWC win was in an inferior competition!

I've often thought that while Ferguson gets all the 'Greatest Manager Ever' plaudits for all the work he did at Man U - winning a European Trophy with Aberdeen was his finest footballing achievement!
