add pubs, cinemas and leisure centres to the shut/lock down list

plan is to review shutdowns 'on a monthly basis'

perhaps, while theres a shutdown ongoing, so less traffic around, the pot hole situation on the roads could be taken care of? ?

and as the PM is making the announcement the pubs are filling in some places and people going outside to call their mates telling them they better hurry and get there as the pubs are closing...You really couldn't make it up

Why all the fuss?

Thousands die from Flu, thousands die from knife & gun crime yet the world is slipping into overdrive for a bit of a snuffle*!

And its creating far too much work for me!! ?

*unless you have underlying health issues or are old.

....ooooops!!

It's the timescales being put on the measures that is depressing. With the prospect of 12 months of social distancing can anyone really see football resuming this year?

Unfortunately I'd expect nothing else. And I expect there will be a run on alcohol at the supermarkets over the weekend.

The last few weeks has shown up what a selfish blinkered society we have become.

Let's assume for a moment that there's something in what you say, would you prefer that steps were taken to try and prevent this somewhat higher death rate that will be announced in the Autumn or just say it's ok it's just a statistic and nobody i know was affected?
I take on board that I might be completely wrong, there certainly are some scary figures coming out from Italy and the states. However there are some encouraging signs from south korea taiwan and japan. My other concern is that everybody is castigating people going to the pub for literally last orders and obviously one doesnt have to go, but one does have to go to the supermarkets and they feel to me more unsafe what with picking up a basket or a trolley and having no hand washing .At least in the pub I only have to pick up a glass thats just come out of a dishwasher and I dont have to touch any more surfaces and I can wash my hands endlessly ah well.........
Testing is the only answer I wish they could get on a bit quicker. Just tried to get online shopping no chance

I could be wrong as well - but I believe Japan closed schools and banned social gatherings when they had only about 160 cases - whereas Italy didn't do it until they had more than 5000.

Japan acted quickly and the spread of the disease there is linear rather than exponential. Italy acted late and are facing a massive national disaster.

I'm sure I don't have to point out which route the US and UK took......
