League One is a great league

As things stand it's an ok season though nothing more surely when you consider where we were and that those 20 years could have finally been behind us though not forgotten.
People are saying on here we'll be ready to have a go next season but we had a major opportunity in this one and there's no guarantee in football that next or the one after will be the same.
it's a rollercoaster being an oxford fan and i just hope that we don't pay for a missed opportunity for years to come.

Have to disagree on it being "an ok season". We've made the League Cup quarter finals for the 1st time in decades, a FA Cup run and we are in the hunt for a play off spot/promotion.

We might not make the play offs but we have had a good season even so, as we don't have Cup runs like we have where we hammer West Ham and draw at Newcastle, then pushing them all the way at home every season.

I agree with the OP. You can't not enjoy the way this season has been generally. Of course some lows (Peterborough still rankles!) but also some highs - and the last couple of results have at least hinted that we might have an exciting two months or so still to go. Although I too would love to have a crack at the Championship (and I think it would really test the ambition of the board, to say the least!) you can't deem any season a failure and not enjoy it because there isn't a promotion - or you'll end up being disappointed the vast majority of the time, and more so as the team moves up the leagues.

I personally think we will be a bit hard pressed to get into the play offs, but am very willing to watch the team giving it a bloody good go, and I don't think you can say whether the season has been a good one or not until it is over.

Saying ok.season is ridiculous.

Saying ok.season is ridiculous.

why is it ridiculous? the cup runs were great and are a Bonus but the League is the bread and butter and i stated as things stand, from where we were still being in with a shout of the Autos to around mid table needing others to now slip up is an ok season i repeat "as things stand"

Because you cant ignore the QUARTER finals of the League Cup and the FACup run.
The hammering of West Ham , the beating of Sunderland in the LC and the draw at Newcastle.
Had we been knocked out of all Cups in he first round it may have been an ok season. Regardless of the 'bread and butter' games you tell the 3 sell out crowds in the Cups and the 4k fans that went to Newcastle that Cups dont matter.
Even in the league we have won 14 and lost 9. 6 0 at Lincoln, a win at Ipswich and draw at Sunderland. In my view, far better than OK and better than most on here thought we would do.

for goodness sake i never said cups don't matter i said they are a Bonus and nobody questioned or based my "opinion" based on what others thought we might do if i was then it's a worse season as i predicted 4th i clearly stated as things stand the League being the bread and butter and from where we were with the best chance of promotion to the championship for nigh on 20 years to now sat chasing hoping others slip up is just ok in my book as of today.
Gees is it not possible to have one's own opinion on here or must we all say and think the same.

Opinions are fine, but it's also reasonable that others may counter those opinions with their own.

Football, especially at Oxford United is about far more than just results. We have always prided ourselves with playing "the right way" with free flowing attacking football. Historically we have been a team that has had some big nights in the cup, going toe to toe with much bigger teams. We have been looking to bring more fans in and to see the Kassam finally become home, with a number of games selling out. We have look on as young talented players start (or restart) their careers with us before going on to bigger things. And every 10 years or so, on average, we get to see our club get a promotion.

Looking at these, we have had an excellent season in all factors bar the last one, and we could still see promotion in a couple of months to make this an exceptional season.
But then again, some of us have a slightly more positive view on things than others.

you started well by actually acknowledging that people are able to counter opinions with their own having always come at me as being negative or a defeatist then let yourself down again by being unable to resist having a little dig.
one would think it's reasonable to assume when talking about a season to date that it's on the pitch and the League table that ultimately defines your season and you're right some have a more positive view on things Karl, the staff the players the fans as we all recognized what a great opportunity we had in front of us.

I think it’s been a great season. Football, at the end of the day, is entertainment. And I’ve been entertained. But hey, what do I know? I sit in the East Stand.

Absolutely it’s been great, if you sit there sourly complaining we haven’t finished top because we won some games in the autumn you’re always going to be disappointed

Largely agree with the OP.

This would be sorely tested were we to finish 17th or 18th every year though!

Of course you can have your own opinion.
So my opinion is that whist you suggest that our season has been 'OK', the majority of supporters will think that it has been a good season even if we dont make the play offs ( far better than most expected)
Personally it is one of the best seasons in the last 20 odd years.
Some great football at times, some really good young players and great Cup and league games.
The only season better was the MAPP promotion season and if we were promoted this season it would trump that.

The momentum and feel good factor from those incredible cup runs and where we sat in the League should have been embraced, with shrewd businessmen at the helm i would have expected them to seize the opportunity that was staring us all in the face.Yes we can enjoy those cup exploits but we cannot rely on visits from the likes of Man City each season and as i keep saying Genuine opportunities for promotion do not come along very often.

The mark for me is seeing kids playing football in the local park proudly displaying their Oxford colours rather than other teams.

It's embarrassing to read some of the drivel spouted on here when we are doing so well especially when it is from people who have been supporting the club long enough to have experienced far darker days than selling two players.

That and complaining because we've played Man City two seasons running in the League Cup, some are just never happy!

has it occurred to you that those spouting this drivel might also care about the club and might just have an alternative view that's worth consideration and some might just feel that a gamble has been taken with our promotion chances from what are meant to be shrewd businessmen.
oh and yes i have been around long enough to remember when a previous owner failed to back the manager when promotion was very close and had to endure 'Top of the League and you fuc*ed it up" from opposing fans and for what was pennies in real terms..
Whilst not wilders biggest fan he did have us competing near the top but was looking for an exit as we slid out of contention
Mapp gave us some wonderful memories and got slaughtered for taking a prem job when it became clear what was ahead
Karl has us playing some very entertaining football and got us within a great chance of promotion and asked to show we are a big club with ambition and that never materialized
Are we to risk losing another decent manager for the wrong reasons? let's not forget that for 2 seasons we courted with relegation which would likely have been a disaster for our club.
