Away Match Day Thread +++ 22/02/20 Ipswich Town v OUFC+++

What’s different?
"Karl Robinson plays down rumours" says the headline - contrast that to some of the views expressed on here suggesting that he wasn't denying the situation (unless I've totally mis-understood some of the comments)

Now that they’ve gotten away with their financial shenanigans they have a clean slate, an ambitious new board with cash and the fans are coming back more and more. Averaging nearly 9,000 per week in the league despite having a below par season - that’s more than we do by nearly 1,200. The state of the town has nothing at all to do with the football club. If it worked like that then we’d be laughing, wouldn’t we? Not to mention it’s less than an hour away from his and his wife’s hometown, where most of their family and close friends are. Don’t see why it’s such an outrageous suggestion tbh, especially since he’s been making it perfectly clear for the last few weeks that he’s not best pleased about how January went. He’s certainly keeping his options open between what he’s said today and what he’s been doing for the last several weeks in terms of his demeanour and comments.

Doesn’t mean there’s definitely something in it, but there’s no reason to suggest it’s highly unlikely either. He had his chance to rubbish it and chose not to. He’ll do what he thinks is best for him and rightly so, and that’s got nothing to do with Blackpool being a bit shite as a town.
Yeah, but BLACKPOOL?!? ?

Listening to his comments on RO after the game he didn’t completely right off his status/position.

Personally I don’t think he’ll go, but like I said, he find ‘the completely right it off.

Just listened to Lambert's post match interview in Twitter.

Apparently they had 'so many shots'. Well tell the BBC, They say Ipswich had 12 shots, we had 10. not exactly a huge difference! But they only managed 2 on target - we had three. Oh and we scored a goal. Hope he never rocks up at our place as manager- he is so dull!
He would make Atkins look like Klopp!

Having watched the iFollow highlights, when were all these chances that Ipswich had? I can count 3 proper chances (rather than half chances that they seem to be counting) and one of those chances was the easy, routine tip over by Easty that Ipswich match reports seem to be bigging up as a dangerous effort!

Although a scrappy game at times with both teams struggling to put passes together (think the hard pitch and wind an effect) the result was more important than the performance. Added bonus having Jackson sent off at the end so they are now without him and Norwood for a few games. Dickie and Moore were immense and Taylor ran his socks off.

How did Garbett play?
One of their better players but even in the first half you could tell he was frustrated. Body language awful at times. There's clearly something badly wrong at Ipswich under the surface and once we took the lead they melted completely. The Jackson sending off said it all - petulant and pointless then walked off at a snails pace with his team one down at home in injury time.

Mick Mills was co commentator and gave a very balanced view, he stated Ipswich were playing well but feared they would be in trouble if we scored..he also stated they lack anybody that can shoot well from outside the box.
He described our Goal as "Just Like a Man City Goal" and mentioned how comfortable our players are on the ball and always have willing box runners when the timing is right.
in the first 30 minutes he could see things regarding us that fortunately Paul Lambert didn't, it makes a change to hear an unbiased view of a game.

from a personal view i was surprised they took Edwards off (unless he was injured) as he looked dangerous and their substitutions and system change had a negative affect for them as we appeared reasonably comfortable after the changes.

That will be from all those clear cut chances they made then? Shame RadOx didn't commentate on them and Sky have edited them all out of the highlights, I would like to know about them! Lambert needs a quick upturn in Ipswich's form or he will be looking for a new job in a few weeks...

Slightly amusing little piece regarding the game. I was fortunately a guest with business associates enjoying Corporate hospitality in the Sir Bobby Robson suite.
The Guest speaker being John Wark. At the end of the game they nominate The Man of the Match to come into the suite for a Q and A session.
They stated that the MOM was Kayden Jackson! Two minutes later they rather embarrassingly admitted that as he was sent off he would not appear. They said that
Will Keane would appear instead. Guess what, the free bar stopped around 6pm with no appearance from him either.
Also, as a point for possible future matches The Station Hotel is apparently the official away supporters hostelry.

A BIG win, probably our most important of the season. Plenty of reasons for optimism looking at our run in. Of the 12 games left, we'd probably start 10 (maybe 11) of them as favourites if they were to be played tomorrow. Football has a way of letting you down, but a run like the one we had to finish the season in 95/96 isn't out of the question.

BTW the defending was shocking for our goal :)

There were 2/3 moments in the first half where the ball just didn't quite fall right for them, those frustrating times of which one being a square pass in the box hit the heel (i think) of one of theirs and instead of a free shot on goal for the intended recipient we were able to clear..Another was similar to us v sunderland when in a crowded box the ball bobbled everywhere..there was also a virtual free header back post (Kean?) and 1 or 2 other decent balls in that flashed across the box.
2nd half one of theirs didn't anticipate our defender missing it (our defender bizarely ducked) and it hit their strikers shin before falling to Easty.
So they had their moments but as Mick Mills said they were just not clinical enough

As i remember it our goal was brilliant. A counter attack at speed which carved them open. Ipswich had pushed up looking for the opener. Henrys ball in to the middle was perfect. A few minutes before he had tried the same pass (which was blocked) when he should have shot.
