Home Match Day Thread +++ 18/02/20 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon +++

Does Dickie's next yellow mean a one or two game ban ? If it's two and we find ourselves in a comfortable position on Saturday late on it may be a good idea for Dickie to try and get himself a yellow. I think we could cope without him against Accrington and Southend and then get his ban out of the way. If it's one game then he needs to definitely get one against Accrington. We are missing Mous but Long or even Gorrin could slot in alongside Moore against Southend.
Until the full extent of the injury to Mous is announced, I would hope we don't mess about trying to manipulate the yellow card situation for Dickie.

I too find their bleating rather pathetic. If they had supported their club in the first place, it wouldn’t have been sold and moved to MK. Their booing everything MK shows how bitter and twisted they are. Given that MK have been running as a league club for 17 years, it’s time they moved on. MK have their own fan base where kids in the area have grown up supporting their local club, they are established. MK should drop the “Dons” bit from their name, just eradicate anything to do with Wimbledon, after all Wimbledon have done nothing for MK.
I'm with you GG and my ire is also further stoked by what happened to Kingstonian (I live fairly locally to Kingsmeadow).

Deary me! Do you get pleasure from disagreeing with virtually any post that you think has even a smidgen of negativity in it!?
Overall in the last few months(apart from Saturday) they have been involved in games where the outcome has been no more than a 2-1 in L1. The last time they or their opponents scored 3 in a game was mid October. In my book that's low scoring.
Would you have time to pick my lottery numbers?

I spoke to Mousinho before the game asking what the score would be, he said 5 or 6. It was destiny. Also Mackie is absolutely clapped, surely his time is nearly up.

Is it just 1 game suspension when picks it up? Would be ideal if gets booked Tuesday. Southend are somewhat our easiest opponents (not what history suggests mind)

That's a good point.
Of the players we have lost. I think that we have missed Cadden most. Having one attacking full back makes big difference to how we play and create.
It was also the movement it enabled with Sykes going wide and Henry tucking in that helped create space for goals and chances. As you allude, the same thing we had with Cadden at RB.

Forde's crossing was more varied too - which it should be with him being a winger by trade. Forde getting 90 mins last night was a good thing for all.

Strange, I’m really not sold on Forde at RB -
I don’t think he can defend, players seem to ghost or run or pass past him at will, and his crossing is patchy at best - a hell of a lot of his crosses don’t clear the first man, including one which we scored from last night after a lucky deflection. I’d rather see Long back there (and much much more would like to see Cadden back) but I’ll re-examine my ideas after seeing everyone else on here being so positive about him.

Like I said somewhere else I can see why Forde played the last two due to formation and then lack of attacking from Wimbledon but would expect Long to start at Ipswich.

Yes I think the same. But he's a square peg in a round hole really. Not the lads fault, he's Hobsons choice after Sam Long.

I think it was slightly more than that, in that he was part of the team that actually moved from Wimbledon to MK.

Aye, but looking at it, he was a trainee/1st year pro at the time so hardly a surprise he stuck with MK Dons. Did they really expect him to effectively risk a chance of a career?

When Cadden was playing everyone said he wasn't really a defender. The same is true of Forde. Personally I prefer the more attacking skills of Forde compared with the Long skill set. KR also favoured that deployment and I don't think it was a coincidence our shape and dynamism happened last night. Plenty of excitement left for the rest of the season

I think that his crossing has been a real plus point and has been better than Longs.
He seems to have has decent pace when defending.
The test on the defending side will be at places like Ipswich.

Forde's crossing on the run is not too great. But his crossing from free kicks and corners was first rate. Defensively just so-so.

I'd agree with that. The good news is he does put the ball into the mixer and not the stand. Makes defenders have to deal with it and there's a chance someone in yellow may get to it first. However I never find myself saying, "cor that was a great cross". An example of which being James Henry's ball into the area for Matty Taylor's second goal last night.

Enjoyed a decent and fluent OUFC performance last night which was a welcome sight. Ok tbh the wimble's weren't anywhere near some of the other opposition we have faced recently but the team needed that and for the punters who came they were rewarded with a 5 goal salvo.

However, a earlier poster mentioned about the home atmosphere which is quite a hot topic to answer but I'll give you my take Fwiw. Yes tbh ours could be better but I'm absolutely sure if the results again go on a real top bender then the last few matches at home this season will see the atmosphere I'm sure improve no end.

A genuine question though :- does the poster get to go away that often (and this is not a pop by any means) because other than Lincoln and to some extent Pompey away this season I have seen nothing of any great substance that stands out to my mind of any great home atmospheric support. This general apathy at matches for some reason seems to be the norm these days with the majority of home support in league 1 (obviously I can't tell you how the home support is in the championship but I'd like to hope with the bigger crowds/clubs it would be better) and I can honestly say that over the last 4/5 seasons with over a hundred away days dealt with I've never felt in any way shape or form that intimidated or in awe (in a support way) by any home support noise that has come our way and that includes our dear ol' soul's down in SE London. However this would probably change if-and it's a big if we did reach our target of getting to the championship, and by then I'll probably be fitted up with those incontinence pants lol -so I'll be ready for it...the intimidation that is.

However, I/we must be careful of what we wish for as for this coming Saturday we are away to Ipswich where I might add we may come across seeing and hearing the home support omit some type of 'championship style' atmosphere and it is then of course up to the away support and the team to start really well to suppress this threat. If we accomplish this together then the poster if the aforementioned is at Portman Road then he/she may well sample the 'hush hush' home atmosphere for themselves. It is not only a k*ssam stadium disease.

Coyy's.
