Home Match Day Thread +++ 18/02/20 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon +++

Best performance of the season tonight. Don’t care that Wimbledon played like they had all 22 legs tied together; this was a coherent and powerful OUFC statement. We could have scored 10. And tonight we had plenty of ball winning dog as well. Keep the same starting 11 for Saturday.

Really enjoyed Thorne’s cameo; considering he can’t really run he’s a hell of a player.

Man of match: Henry, what a great finish for his goal as well.
I would definitely start Gorrin v Ipswich. They will be far more of a threat.
The rest keep the same.

I agree. It is difficult to drop anyone after last night, but as superb as we were, I'd be amazed (and even more bloody optimistic) if we tear through Ipswich in the same way. I'd probably play Gorrin deep in place of Holland, and Browne playing on the left. That is exceptionally tough on Holland who looked a very good player, but he will get plenty more chances.

I'd keep Browne in midfield as he provides a good quick route from there to the forwards. This has been absent from previous games in which build up has been so slow, with more emphasis on keeping the ball rather than actually getting forward with pace.

Superb display last night. Really enjoyed that.

Forget the fact that Wimbledon didn’t look great... they have had some useful results, notably a draw with table topping Rotherham at the weekend.

We made them look poor. We were energetic, aggressive, precise and clinical in our play.

We have had some real dross teams at the Kassam before and we haven’t torn them apart like that... we simply bang on it for 90 minutes.

Season starts here!! A tough run in, but football like that will give us every chance to work our way back.

Our goal difference has also suffered of late but that result felt like 4 points. Clawing back our goal difference could be massive.

Really difficult game against Ipswich at the weekend but boy o boy what a boost going into that game.

Last night we saw the benefit of playing a more attacking RB in the team with Henry out wide - not intended as a slight to Long in any way - and how it enables us to retain the ball and attack the opposition wave after wave. We showed a lot of quality on the right and it really made us a hard team to play against.

We really played liked we'd purged the last few games out our system and were hungry. This team also doesn't tire easily and the 5th goal showed the minds and bodies were strong. Tough game on Saturday, but confidence won't be an issue

Does Dickie's next yellow mean a one or two game ban ? If it's two and we find ourselves in a comfortable position on Saturday late on it may be a good idea for Dickie to try and get himself a yellow. I think we could cope without him against Accrington and Southend and then get his ban out of the way. If it's one game then he needs to definitely get one against Accrington. We are missing Mous but Long or even Gorrin could slot in alongside Moore against Southend.

I think Forde suites the Wingback role better and against teams who aren’t going to attack a lot like Wimbledon at RB. Wouldn’t be surprised to see long play against Ipswich.

2 match same as Gorrin

It would be 2 games. However, I think you just need to allow Dickie to play his natural game and not worry about the yellow until it happens. We need to keep a stable side for as long as possible and not try to manipulate the situation.

I’ll be at Ipswich Saturday, but we will probably have to play better. Wimbledon were very poor and look like they’ll be in L2 come August

Wimbledon were the poorest team we've seen at home this year and that includes a Conference team. They also seemed to have a manager that hadn't watched us play recently - rather than trying to press us, they sat back and encouraged us to play.

As I often do, I had a quick look at their forum after the game (not an easy process as the format hasn't been updated since 2000) and amongst some realism there were the usual delusional comments. One poster reckoned they weren't outplayed but just didn't defend well. He obviously didn't watch the game - the woodwork, a couple of good saves and some profligate finishing saved them an utter thrashing.

Other than Swindon, they are the team I hate the most - self-pitying, self-regarding, yet with some sense of moral superiority. They've never managed to shake off that non-league mentality and I'd love nothing more than to see them drop back through the leagues. It was a great story - starting from the Combined Counties, climbing through the leagues and moving back to their original home, all as a fan owned club - but their sheer small-mindedness gets my back up.

I too find their bleating rather pathetic. If they had supported their club in the first place, it wouldn’t have been sold and moved to MK. Their booing everything MK shows how bitter and twisted they are. Given that MK have been running as a league club for 17 years, it’s time they moved on. MK have their own fan base where kids in the area have grown up supporting their local club, they are established. MK should drop the “Dons” bit from their name, just eradicate anything to do with Wimbledon, after all Wimbledon have done nothing for MK.
