Away Match Day Thread +++ Peterborough Utd v OUFC - match day thread +++

This is a bastard of a game. Peterborough 3 Oxford United 3 (Browne 2, Kelly) Att: 9895 and 849 United fans. A dog will run onto the pitch. Oxford players will play in just their pants and vests, which is KR's new strategy to confuse our opponents. Eastwood will start as centre forward, but be shown to be crap, so will go back in goal. 'Boro fans will be in a confused state, 'cos they're not used to winning, so will sing: "We're staying up!" instead of: "We're going up!" Their manager will resign after the game. A Russian, who was working at Chernobyl during the 80's, will be there, with four arms. He'll be waving four different flags and will be arrested. That just about does it for me. COYY

Posh have some top players, especially up front but have a feeling this is the ideal, high stakes fixture for us right now. Keep it tight early on, sit a bit deeper to counter their pace, hit them in the second half with pacy subs. Going to don a tin hat now and suggest Mackie to start. Have a weird affection for the wooden seats and low roof at London road too. Bring it on.

Based on the players who played lots of minutes on Tuesday, and the game coming on Tuesday as well, I’d play this...

Eastwood
Long Dickie Moore Ruffels
Gorrin
Henry Kelly
Browne Mackie Agyei

or

Mackie and not Sykes? Are you having a laugh?

Eastwood
Long Dickie Mousinho Ruffels
Sykes Gorrin Brannagan
Henry Taylor Browne

3-1 Oxford

Both times we've met this season it has ended 1-0 (Brannagan). So fairly obviously it will be
1-3 (Szmodics; Dickie, Browne, Henry).

No prediction from me today, game could swing either way. Just hope our defence can keep strong and we'll have a good chance.

Andy Haines is the ref. We've not seen a lot of him. Seems to ref two thirds of his time in League 2 and a third in League 1.
Two previous games we had him - Blackpool (A) last season, that 1-0 win and the 2-2 draw at Fleetwood the year before.
Quite a low count on yellows and very few reds.

Now that we're out of both cups it feels good to focus on getting into the play-offs.
A win at Posh would be a brilliant statement of intent and a well-timed counter to the board's fear of promotion.

Just cant see us getting much out of this, we will be knackered from Newcastle, poshbin great form and invested heavily in January which we failed to do.

Quite a few players either didn’t feature against Newcastle (Henry, Mousinho, Hanson) or didn’t play a full game (Taylor, Thorne, Agyei, Kelly, Mackie, Browne, Gorrin) so as long as the squad is used intelligently and the right team is picked I’m not sure tiredness is a valid excuse.

Didnt they lose their most creative and second best player ? I am not sure that investing heavily ever won one football match ( what would you have have been like as a Man U fan v Burnley)?
Tiredness could be an issue and Peterborough are on great form (I suspect that they will lose in the play offs again this season as normal)
We have a chance though. Our first team has some excellent players at this level and if we get the breaks you just never know.

Win our games in hand we leapfrog Posh regardless of the result of this game.

Anything we can get out of this tough game is a bonus in my opinion.

Oxford 3-0 win.
