General Jan transfer window

Yeah no question, but why now when we know there would be a host of clubs after him in the summer when he value will only have got even higher? It's a shocking time to sell.
If he said, I want to go to Brentford and the agent was doing their job, there isn't a lot we can do about it, other than say to players, we live by our principles. I'm not jumping for joy at this, but equally, if Baptiste tears his ACL again or does the other shoulder in, where are we left?

Is now the optimal time to cash out? Hard for us fans to know

It was dissapointing yesterday. To lose fosu and baptiste.

On the bright side we still have today to get sombody in. We have players returning from injuries.

We have got a couple in hopfully one more today.

Missed out on Odonnell but I don't blame him longway to move, Could have found out maybe before wasting time persuing him, Roumors were around at the start of jan.

Sombody like grigg would lift the feeling around the club as a reasonalble name. But he has been useless for sunderland.

Its not all doom and gloom.

Given the early signings I believe this window will be defined by not the two leaving but by who comes in today. A new proven striker and right back would make it an excellent window. Baptiste has been talked up and price expectations set all season and if north of £3.5M is a good fee. I think the despondency within the management structure came from Fosu's decision to move on after having his career resurrected by Robinson. Don't forget he could hardly get in Charltons first team. Hopefully some good news as the day progresses else I will be as despondent as everyone else.

The future of the club is best preserved by maximising the value of our assets. In Shandon's case it's impossible to think we have done that.
Shandon had already agreed to go to brentford last year, I'm gutted to see him go but not suprised. Everytime he went down I feared something else had gone...if he does well then a good sell on clause will be optimising the total deal , including the fee now.

Erm, do I need to spell it out?
I`m sure others can do a better job but, generally, we spend more than we bring in so trade at a loss every season.
In a simplistic world that is "business" but in reality there is debt building up.
that's interesting what over 15-20million? just curious as I thought the board were backing robinson to push for promotion.hmmm

I am hoping for 1 in if we make no signings at all I will be dissapointed positive for now.

On another KRism, was Karl just being deliberately artful when he said that he was interested in buying Will Grigg?

Knowing that ...

1. He couldn’t hit a cows a**e with a banjo.
2. He cost Sunderland £4million.
3. Sunderland would never sell to a promotion rival.

If he wasn’t being playful, was he serious?? Really????

I looked into it last night and on the sunderland forum they want rid obviously. It did look abit more positive there was a quote from parkinson that he could let him leave.

That was yesterday.

Maybe after the brentford deals go through we will make an offer.

Only cost Sunderland if he made so many appearances and promotion to the premiership otherwise it was 1.25 million

None of us know the particulars of the deal including any extra bits, future sell on clauses etc. As such I'm not sure how you can make that statement. Some research shows for football players reoccurrence of ACL injuries can be as high as 25 percent. Given he has had that injury plus two serious shoulder injuries at the age of 21, this will surely have been a factor in whether to hold onto him or sell him now as well as impact any fee.

Most of the sunderland fans wanted him out on a loan to perm deal with a stiplulation not to play against them.

Most were not bothered and didn't really consider us promotion rivals. (they may be right)

A few were sure he would start banging in the goals as soon as he left which is often the case.

I think most of us expected a lot of interest in Baptiste, and obviously it's not ideal to see him go. What makes it feel worse is the timing and fee. Deals for both him and Fosu not going through till transfer deadline day leaving almost no time to find replacements and reinforce.

Apparently Fosu had a £750k release clause, but selling Baptiste for any less than £5 million is criminal in my opinion. It isn't often you get a young homegrown talent like him coming through in League 1, particularly in central midfield, and it comes across like we have just accepted offers with no real negotiation.
