EPL Man U

Are you a Man U fan?
Lampard has done far better that OGS.
Man U spent a fortune on Maguire, James and Wan Bissaka.
Chelsea sold one if the best players in the PL ( Hazard)
Chelsea will exceed expectations if they get into the Top 4.

No I’m not ! I do, however, think football needs a strong Manchester United. Just like the PL needs Leeds, Villa etc. I also think United get undue stick. They’re crap right now, we all know that, but I really don’t think Chelsea are much better or Spurs or Arsenal.

James or Williams ? Not much in it. McTominay is further ahead in his respective game than Mount is and does anyone seriously think Abraham will ultimately be a better striker than Greenwood, never mind that other home grown talent, Rashford ?

Chelsea can buy in this window can’t they ? They’re as inactive as United. And Tottenham. Who have Arsenal brought too ? United are 5th, ahead of Spurs and Arsenal. United are a convenient target. Truth is there’s one outstanding team and another very good but faltering one. The rest are pretty sh*t.

Once again, 'United'... There is no team called that, if you mean 'Manchester United', then at least put 'Man Utd'

I say City and United. Everyone knows who you mean. If you’re having trouble identifying which United then just read the post in its entirety and it will become obvious.
No, you shouldn't do it, especially on an Oxford UNITED forum. The whole United and City thing is disrespectful to other clubs.

If you claim to remotely support Oxford, then Man U are definitely NOT 'United'

I think that you are pretty on your own (except for Man U supporters) in thinking that football 'needs' a strong Man U.
I would love to see them relegated.

Disagree.

Relegated and replaced by who ? Brentford ? I think football is better for having the 50,000 atmospheres Newcastle generate rather than the soulless 12,000 Bournemouth get. You obviously disagree but give me Man Utd v Liverpool or Man City v Chelsea at 4pm on a Sunday rather than Bournemouth v Watford.

I respect your view though that you’d find the latter game more enthralling. Everyone is different.

I’d love to see you justify if the scenario ever arose that we should forgo our promotion to the top flight and Newcastle should stay up because ‘football is better’ for having a 50k crowd in the top flight than a team who’s limit is only a quarter of that.

I see Guardiola wants cup replays to stop....I suppose he is worried his superstars can’t cope with an extra 90 minutes a week

You have to smile when people say United will go 30 years before they next win a title. Not a chance of that happening. They will come good again in the next five seasons, whether that’s under OGS is debatable but it will happen. There’s a rotten core currently running through the team, Pogba the obvious one but Martial, Matic, Rojo, Shaw, Jones and even a £350,000 a week under performing goalkeeper are also culpable for the current state the club is in. Bar De Gea they are squad players earning an absolute fortune and happy to just play 10 games a season and sit on their sizeable contracts.

There’s decent talent and desire there in my opinion. Rashford, Wan Bissaka, McTominay, Maguire, Greenwood, Fred and Williams wouldn’t be out of place in a squad challenging for the very top honours but they need help and they are just 7 or 8 so there’s a mountain of dealing to be done to reach title contenders again but I don’t think they’re a million miles off where Chelsea, Spurs, Leicester, Arsenal currently are.

It’s a mess but I’d very very surprised if it remains a Liverpool style 30 year old mess.
Is that you Baldy?

At the end of this season they will have gone 7 seasons without winning the league, they are further away from winning it than they have ever been.

None of those players you list would get in the Liverpool team, a couple in the squad. They are only 6th because Arsenal and Spurs are in as much decline and Wolves because they have played 3 games a week since July.

Liverpool and Man City have world class coaches, Man Utd don't. Lampard didn't get Derby promoted, Ollie did get Cardiff relegated. Man Utd have spent millions again, Chelsea haven't.

Doesn't mean they wont win it in the next 23 years but it will be a long while yet.

I'm sure im not the only one who would laugh there B*****s off for a week if Man Utd got relegated.

As your second team to "united"?

Nope, if anything as a kid I had an affinity for Man City. Still like City but not to the degree I’d cheer them on over another PL team.

I just happen to think Man Utd, as crap as they are, are not really any worse than Spurs or Arsenal. Better if the old adage the league never lies is true. They are marginally behind Chelsea but I think their 4-0 at home and their cup win at Chelsea sort of nullifies the league standing in terms of who is making the better progress.

We can say what we like about Ole but he tied Lampard in knots tactically in that cup game. The 4-0 wasn’t as emphatic a performance and Chelsea played well but they were very very naive on the day and just poured forward leaving gaping holes which cost them.

Liverpool ..utterly brilliant.
City.. I still think best team in country on their day but those days are dwindling.
Chelsea ..not great. Some ridiculous losses to rubbish teams at home. No progress.
Tottenham - .. gone backwards
Arsenal - .. good appointment but a long way off
Man U.. racked by inconsistency and squabbling. Loads for the media to chew on.

I follow the PL but no PL team.

Tbf, both Chelsea and Man Utd if they have any sense will stick with their managers for the foreseeable future and let them rebuild the squads from the ground up. I think Chelsea are a bit better off with the off the pitch set up than the mess that Man Utd are with Woodward et al.

Also, Chelsea look like they are ahead in being to exploit their Academy set up at the moment which is why Lampard is getting leeway with the likes Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Reece James in their 1st PL season and having a greater impact than their Man Utd equivalents. Although Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood clearly have real potential but not yet been as effective. I suspect Chelsea have more coming through behind these players than Man Utd currently do as well considering the criticism of Man Utd's Academy set up only a few years ago.

The Academy is what Man Utd and Chelsea need to rebuild from, imo, with some intelligent additions as well as the supposed very best I don't think will sign for them at present.
I don’t feel sorry for Man U or Chelsea ... at times find both fans rude at times.
And l do recall the Chelsea fans , thought they would stand in the LR but they seemed to fall out on to the pitch .... l can’t recall how , l think may be they got lost or something like that ??‍♂️
