Championship Brentford’s New Stadium

Our existing ground is sound, able to be added to (fourth stand & corners joined), & has good existing catering & conference facilities - it will be madness to embark on a long & costly Planning process to relocate.
But the suitability or not of the current stadium isn't the issue. It is the financial sustainability of the club whilst using it.

You are right - make changes and it would easily be suitable for Championship football. Even just the fourth stand would probably bring the ground up to size for most games.
But who is going to build a fourth stand? Kassam? The return for him would be an even higher rent for the club. Some other investor? What return would they get for adding to someone else's property? None under the current arrangement. So then you have to consider whether it would be worth an investor (or group of them) buying the stadium and then improving it. But again - where is the return for them in doing that? You can't pay back £20m + interest by hiring out a few meeting rooms or getting advertisers to buy pitch side boards or punters to buy an extra pie!

So if there is no return, there is no investment. And that (rather than the suitability or not of the stadium) is why they are looking elsewhere. Some of the people on the board are well used to planning processes - that wouldn't phase them.

Brentford's new stadium shows what a good design can be done in a relative small space, but I don't see any retail park or alike surrounding the stadium to make it "sustainable".

Did you miss the 910 apartments and community facilities that will deliver activities for four separate London Boroughs?

But Kassam had a dozen caravans in the carpark so no reason why we need to move!!

You need to do a bit of research sometimes:

"The stadium is to be shared with rugby union side London Irish and Brentford said in a statement: “The Brentford Community Stadium development is an important part of the wider regeneration of the area known as Brentford East and will deliver a stadium ready for both Premier League football and Premiership rugby, together with more than 900 new homes, a new purpose-built location for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, and a public square with shops and cafes.”

Houses, shops, cafes, community sports facilities and ground sharing in the middle of a council sponsored regeneration area.

Shame us and Ox City Council can't do the same at oxpens

I know all that I did do the research, the stadium build costs £70m+, Griffen park was brought by a fan to own 98% of it, he then sold the 7.6 acre plot to builders to build much needed houses on for an undisclosed amount, to help start the project. We don't have that option to start the ball rolling and cover a large proportions of costs.
If you can be bothered I suggest anyone thinking about a new stadium should read the minutes of the Lionel Road Liaison group meeting dated 19 April 2019.

It is a community stadium which is very good and the council were very compliant in the local regeneration, I'm not sure that's the situation here at Oxford. I can't find any reference to how the build of the stadium ties up with the build of the housing etc to cover costs for Willmot Dixon who tendered for the project.

"Multi coloured seats so it looks full on telly" ??? Jeezuss is that what it has come too?

Is this to do with Brentford FC or the unconnected bigger regeneration of the area.

From the Willmott Dixon site.
"Part of Brentford’s wider multi-million pound regeneration project, the scheme now sees EcoWorld London responsible for developing three existing brownfield parcels of land situated next to Kew Bridge Railway Station. This follows EcoWorld London's acquisition of a 70 per cent interest in the development in 2018.

The mixed-used project will incorporate nearly 1,000 new homes, the new Brentford Community Stadium, as well as mix of shops, restaurants, cafes and public spaces. Approximately half of the new homes will be Build-to-Rent (BtR), which were acquired by Invesco Real Estate in Q4 2018 on behalf of one of its international clients in an agreement valued at nearly £400m."

A couple of questions, sorry if already answered...
So who owns the stadium? Is it club or someone else?
Is it all paid for, or are there loans /debt?
What are the facilities inside the stadium, eg bars / conference / room hire facilities etc?
Does the club keep all the revenue from inside the stadium?

Good questions.
Being a community stadium its probably council owned, because once London Irish applied to ground share they had no option but to let them, that's how I read it.
