Manager/Coach Jim Smith RIP

RIP Jim. Totally shocked and very saddened by the death of a true OUFC legend. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time. Will never forget the absolutely fabulous team he produced in the 80's.....without doubt the best team we have ever had.

His last game as manager for us. A 1-1 draw.

We shouldn’t forget his role in bringing CW here too. Like Oxblogger has put it in their post about him, he influenced the club in so many ways.

Really sad news. Forever an OUFC Legend, an over used word but not in this case.

We’ll never forget you.

Thoughts with Yvonne and Jim's daughters and family. Very sad news and as been said a true Oxford legend.

One of the best, our success history would be non existent without him. He had Oxford Utd in his blood and a well respected figure in the football world, his knowledge was well recognised.
Time waits for no one.
A very sad day not just for Oxford Utd but football in general......

I never had the pleasure of watching us under his rule. But without a doubt we would never have been the club we are now without his influence. Rest in peace Jim, a true Oxford United legend.

Obviously we can never forget the 2 promotions in successive years and the incredible cup exploits ( Man U stands out amongst many). Its mindblowing the side he put together. So many truly excellent players. But if I may 2 anecdotes that tell us a little of Jim the man. My parents were in charge of matchday programme sales So very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Jim was on the other side of a restaurant they went to. Next an expensive bottle of red was delivered to their table. Jim just gave a cheery wave. Also I helped Judgey and Rosie by putting together the ex players for the Farewell to the Manor game v QPR old boys. Jim went out of his way to find me after the post match reception to specifically thank me. Gentleman Jim indeed. A true legend. RIP Bald Eagle.

Everyone who was there loved you Jim.

RIP.

Simply the best. He gave us something to remember and put together a team of players that we should never forget.
RIP Jim.

Agree with all of the comments made.
A real legend ( a word that is used too often)
He gave OUFC the greatest times it will ever see.
I remember even in the early 1980s, people telling me that a club like oufc could never reach the top Division.
How wrong were they. We were very lucky to have him as our manager.
RIP Jim Smith

Growing up I was told story after story about this great man obviously I had the privilege of seing him takeover the second time but the stories my grandad told me growing up about this man and it’s been inbeded in me for years that he is the biggest name/legend in this clubs history. I’m 30 but I’m seing younger and younger people singing his name week in week out atm which tells me your legacy will live on for decades and decades to come ????

RIP legend.
thanks for the many good times. thoughts with his family at this time

Tears are still flowing, devastated, feel a bit apprehensive about the next game as it will be really upsetting ???
