National News Official 2019 General Election Thread

Funny all those people apparently concerned about antisemitism -yet who aren’t bothered at all about the stench of antisemitism in the Conservative Party. Jacob Rees Mogg called two Jewish Tory MP’s members of the Illuminati (a well known antisemitic conspiracy theory) and repeated other slurs about George Soros.
Is it two or 3 Conservative candidates who have had to resign for Holocaust denial this week? The Conservative allies in the European Parliament included the far right Alternative fuer Deutschland that repeats antisemitic slurs and are trying to rehabilitate the Wehrmacht and the SS. Rees Mogg often speaks about them enthusiastically.

It seems to me that concern about antisemitism often has more to do with attacking the Labour Party than supporting Jewish people. But then every research shows antisemitic views are unsurprisingly more common on the right and in the Conservative Party
You'll have to explain that one.

It’s a conspiracy theory claiming the world is run by a secret masons lodge controlled by the Rothschild family

It’s popular amongst far right American evangelicals like Pat Robertson and Lyndon LaRouche

As a historian of antisemitism who has published on the stereotype of “Jewish criminality” used by the Nazis and their accomplices, it was extremely unsettling for me to hear Rees-Moog castigate his opponents, particularly his two fellow Tories of Jewish background, Sir Oliver Letwin and Speaker John Bercow, as “Illuminati who are taking the powers to themselves.”

reasonable-ish explanation, for those who still cant/ wont grasp the Labour Brexit position, ('borrowed' from elsewhere) View attachment 2464
There is nothing wrong with that position in principle, but there is no appetite for further delays. Brexit has crippled the country for 3 or 4 years now and the vast majority just want it done and dusted, either to leave with the May/Johnson deal, or to cancel it once and for all with the Lib Dems.

When the country was calling out for clear direction and leadership, Corbyn went missing and that is what has left him so weak now. Only a few weeks ago when Johnson first took over, Corbyn called his bluff and had the opportunity to take real control over the Brexit process but he bottled making a clear decision and that has cost him massively.

I've lost faith in politics as a whole, but even good governments need effective opposition. Sadly we now have a poor government with absolutely awful opposition and the country is up s**t street as a result.

Corbyn is the Sunderland of British politics, he had every possible advantage and bottled it at the last minute. And no amounts of Charlie PR shite will cover up for this massive failure!!!

johnson's 'deal' ( IMO worse than May's rejected one) will take well over 2 years to impliment, IF in the unlikely event he actually manages to win a majority of seats come Dec 12 ... again IMO , the GE SHOULD be about sorting out the debacle of the last 9 years, Torys have made a proper dogs dinner of Brexit, any form of Brexit will take time to impliment, those who think a vote for the Tory leader with his burning underwear will ensure its 'done' ( quickly) are very mistaken

And that maybe so. But I would suggest that Jewish votes were often a Labour stronghold, and any right wing bullshit from the Tories would only strengthen that position. But the antisemitism of recent years has been focused on Labour with most of the concern raised from within it's own party.

Lifelong voters are walking away, MP's have left the party, high profile funders have stopped. It's not Tories putting the knife in, but the party self harming.

I'm by no means defending Johnson or the Tories. It feels like we're in a situation where we've dropped our packed lunch down the toilet and have to decide whether to eat your sandwich or flapjack! Either way we will have to swallow a load of s**t at the same time!

No, not acceptable for me. Corbyn was remain in the buildup to the referendum, and should have used that and campaigned. Instead he sat back and did nothing. A potential leader should demonstrate leadership skills, not sit back and wait for things to happen around him. Although I will say his position, or lack of, is still more favourable than that of Johnson, who is nothing more than an opportunistic hypocrite. As much as I don't want Johnson to be PM, Corbyn is just as inept (albeit for different, less odeous, reasons).

This election is boring. The Simpsons did it already.

has he swiss blood? .... as he'll remain neutral , if labour are elected, after negotiating a (better?) brexit deal then offering a peoples voter with remain as the alternative to it

You think antisemitism is funny? Or just funny when Conservatives do it?

There’s are only about 250000 Jewish people in the U.K. about twice the size of Oxford. So I think the fears of antisemitism will lose labour a couple of seats I don’t think it will necessarily be more than that.
A lot of the hostility began when Ed Miliband was leader. Both his parents were refugees from the Holocaust but he supported recognition of Palestine.

No, I think you are funny. Sad, but funny. Actually, more ridiculous than funny.

Explain why you think it's "ridiculous" to point out Jacob Rees Mogg's anti-semitism, ManorLounger.

Corbyn spent years wanting to leave the EU (or whatever it was called at the time), so that probably explains his very half hearted remain campaigning, I think he is a leaver at heart who can’t say that as it doesn’t fit in with his young momentum supporters.

Are you denying the anti semitism issues within the labour party?

Why am I “ridiculous” for pointing out Jacob Rees Mogg’s antisemitism, then Manorlounger?

Let's go back to your original post, the one in which I highlighted: "the Illuminati (a well known antisemitic conspiracy theory)"

I asked if you would explain that statement. You didn't.

What you, or I, hold as an opinion of Jacob Rees-Mogg is irrelevant in this context.
