General The ‘U’s’....

By that logic, MkDons would be nicknamed 'The Roundabouts' or 'The Concrete Cows' :)

Yes, well the gown and city don't like us and a lot of us don't like them. We play in Blackbird Leys (at the time of going to press), which is perhaps the least 'gown' part of our the beautiful city.

So call us the Blackbirds, it's s**t but it'll confuse the cunts from the BBC & the Grauniad.

Oxford is known world wide as the city of dreaming spires. Sounds like a logical nickname to me.
We aren't the uni, we represent the people of Oxfordshire, not the university. What next, call games against Cambridge a Derby?

So rather than embrace a worldwide brand you would distance yourself from it. I guess you dont work in marketing.

Thankfully no I don't. By all means use it abroad, but an official nickname? No. How far do you want to go? University Stadium? Rename to Oxford Freshers?

How about The Manor Men or The London Roaders. That's more like it for me and maybe many more given the history and all.

how bout The Morris men, in appreciation of the car factories.... and also the traditional Morris dancing, reintroduced in England, in1899 by William Kimber ( who was born in Headington Quarry, Oxford- Morris dancing was reborn at the Chequers, Headington Quarry, spitting distance from Headington Quarry Rec' where some of the first HUFC matches were played) ?

actually , being something of a traditionalist, I still prefer The U's

Well to give Tiger some credit he hasn't tried to rebrand us with some gimmicky nickname like tried with Hull Tigers, or come up with a new club song like They Call Us the Royals. Or Cardiff switch from playing from blue to red.
That was my original thought when I started reading the title and talk of rebranding.
I suppose it's the era you started supporting the club that defines your nick name for the team.

We are the U's that's part of our history, we seem to have lost most of our history without abandoning what's left.

Up the U's!

And Desmond
Which does actually link us with the university

Did you see at Hayes and Yeading? There was a fan who had obviously had a few and was ranting away about how he was a proper fan in the 1980s and the nickname should be back to what it was.
You must have been stood right near me. That was the highlight of the entire trip!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The U’s is a bit of a feeble nickname but it’s better than something dreamed up by marketing people like the Black Cats. It’s a shame that some of the old nicknames are falling out of use, do people still talk about the Biscuitmen and the Toffees?

Yes they do as it's those clubs history, let's embrace ours and be proud!

According to good old ‘Wickaaay’ Headington United’s nickname was ‘The Boys From Up The Hill’. I know all the associated history behind the term but that was never actually the case was it??
