Myself and a few of my other friends who don't attend all the time sit together in the same group all have ST, so the financial situation is not about us.
There is an amount of apathy amongst our group and rarely do we all attend at the same match, some of are group have been following our team for 45+ years up and down the country, good and bad times, we can still enjoy a win and moan about a bad result even not being at the ground but doing what we preferred to do on the day.
If I wanted to watch good football I would switch on the TV to watch some (which I don't), the ground and club need to get the soul back in the club, motivate the fans who attend now and target new fans to increase attendances, DE achieved this for a while and it is now down to the owners to get the off pitch stuff sorted better and get the belief back in the existing fans.
Mmm. I am not sure that it is maybe your group that has lost interest. Most I speak to are generally enthused by the football we are playing.
Watching good football meaning just turning on the TV? Really surprised at that comment. Watching your team play fantastic football, with a highly motivated group of individuals and scoring stunning goal after stunning goal is a million times better than watching Liverpool in my view (and I would imagine most oufc supporters)

THe ground could be made more welcoming, but the soul of the club has to come from the fans. They have to turn up and get involved rather than watch tv or do other things.

In general one of the things that that makes it hard to get new people along is the fact that seats are allocated. If you have a st then anyone you bring or attract will end up sitting some distance from you. Make North and East stands unallocated, twenty quid on the gate sit where you like.

As i've said before you have to do much more than forever trying to milk your current fan base after a win or 2.
it is not that long ago that some were saying we were crap, going to be in another relegation scrap and calling for the managers head and this from people who do attend.

Maybe Oxfordshire people are prone to being negative and miserable

Are we actually a club with a bigger fan base more than the 6000 all so people that turn up every other Saturday I mean most night matches at home the crowd is generally less than a Saturday game I think people look at us and we’re probably not that appealing do we really want a casual game where we get 10000 with a deal atmosphere all the usual 6000 and a good atmosphere I would rather have the usual 6000 even in the championship than a load of glory hunters who turn up just because the games are against teams they’ve seen on the tele

Not deal - dead fat fingers on a smart phone ?

Yep that would make sense especially to all the ST holders who meet on match day sit by each other and then come along to the next match day, seats unallocated and they have to sit some distance away. Sorry never will happen

Don’t see why it shouldn’t happen, no need to be negative

Ok sorry but for years people have been sat in their seats week in week out having the view they want them come match day someone has aim at in there normal seat along with that persons Mates sat all around him maybe having only attended a couple of games a season but the original ST holder can only sit in the far corner up against the end of the East/North stand.....I’m sure he will be happy, what will happen will be carnage as a majority of ST holders will tell the person in their original seat to f**k off elsewhere or their could be trouble and with present incumbent of Stewards we have that would be a recipe for disaster.

Because one of the reasons for buying a season ticket is that you have your seat reserved. In my case, I now know all the people around me and enjoy the in-jokes, banter and familiarity. Sometimes we meet up at away games as well. I don't want to either have to get into the ground at 2pm to 'reserve' my seat, nor do I want to have to deal with some of the people who turn up just as the game is starting and push their way in to wherever they fancy because they want to be near their mates. Unallocated 'seating' is absolutely fine for away supporters (and of course on terraces!) though - for exactly the reason you mention: you can't always buy tickets in a block.

I appreciate that I can come across as a bit of a dick at times when defending the club, but I honestly respect that everyone has a decision to make themselves about how they spend their time and money - both of which are sometimes in short supply.

The club does need to listen to fans, especially those who have given a lifetime to the club. But I also think, as fans, we have to see the situation from the clubs position too.

I very rarely watch football on tv these days. I have a passing interest in the PL and will watch England in the World Cup/Euros, but beyond that I generally don't care for it. I do however find myself enjoying the Oxford United experience far more! Of course there are good days and bad, and Christ have we had our share of the bad! It's great seeing us rip West Ham apart and easing to wins against Doncaster, Gillingham, Tranmere. But it's also the games against Coventry which gave pretty much everything you want from league 1 football. I was left speechless by Baptiste's goal against West Ham, but took just as much enjoyment out of seeing Jamie Mackie rugby tackle a player in the last minutes against Coventry when he was fucked!! Equally, seeing the kids play in the Leasing.com games is just as important as seeing the stars of Man City last year. And to make it even better, I've now got my daughter coming to pass this all on to the next generation. So on the pitch, things are really as good as they've ever been during the Kassam years.

Off the pitch, we have been through the mill a number of times. And of course news about late bills and financial uncertainty doesn't do anyone any favours. But as much as we have a crappy first year with Tiger, we have been as stable as we ever ca be since March. We have invested heavily in the first team squad over the summer, secured the training facilities and are (whether believed or not) working exceptionally hard behind the scenes to sort the stadium issues out. As fans we always want more, but at this stage, I genuinely feel that we are in a good position that could become very much better IF the plans all come together.

The stadium is still a fairly miserable place to be, and it needs more than Ollie the Ox wandering around to get people to love the wider match day experience. But this has been the case for many years and fans can work around the limitations if they want. You can go to pubs 10-15 minutes away and walk up to the game. Meet further away and grab an increasing number of buses to the ground. Or, if you really must, turn up early and endure a warm beer and cold sausage roll!! All of which are part of the footballing experience that we were brought up with!

So whilst things are far from perfect it could be a hell of a lot worse and whilst the club can massively improve their marketing, so can we as fans. Within your group, why not arrange one game a month or so where you all get together. Meet in a different pub each time etc, make it a shared experience that brings the love back to the game. Have your own retro shirt game! Bobble hat game etc etc. Bring a friend to the agme day! The social interactions at football can't be underestimated, but this can't me manufactured. We can all make a difference and if we can bring lifelong fans back through the doors, then it gives us a good base to start building a new fan base.

I’m just thinking it would make the home end more like a terrace and let people cluster with like minded souls. It seems to work at the rare away games I attend.

Don't agree with that at all.
ST holders choose a seat when purchasing, usually because it's exactly where they want to be!!

I agree. I enjoy having my regular seat where I know the people around me, and that they’ll be the same for the next match. And for those critics of the parking situation, I also like being 2 minutes walk from my car in the East Stand car park.

Also of course, if you have a ST and bring guests then (if there are not free seats next to you) the nice people in the ticket office will allow you to move your seat to one that DOES have sufficient near it to accommodate your friends.

Impressive home form I must say. Only 7 goals conceded in the league at home this season four of them to Burton and 3 to Coventry.

I agree that I like to sit in the same place each time, but I’m in the ssl. I’m just thinking that the home end should be different, a bit more of a free for all that would attract new fans.

Spot on as usual ZTH. I was going to put that exact thing. But was busy so had to cut the post short!!

Eh? So you want your seat in the SSL reserved, but us plebs in the East Stand have to scrum for ours? I think the East Stand ought to stay as it is and make all the South Stand unreserved ;) You can fight over the blankets and thermos flasks....
