The issue won't be around a fee, which will be nominal at best. Bristol City want him off the wage bill but the last year of his contract is on more money than we would pay, so compromises are needed.

The problem is that Bristol City will have seen the stats from Saturday as much as we have. They will know that we need a striker more than ever and only have 2 weeks to find one. That means that they can play hardball but it's a risky game as they could be left with an unwanted player on their books until January at least.

My gut feeling is that Taylor will either sign this week or we will go ahead with other options. McCleary and Thorne are pretty much done deals as far as I'm aware so all energies can be put into getting the elusive no.9!

Your guess is Taylor will either ‘sign this week or go head with other options’ ...... hmmm, yeah well done. I think my 5 year old granddaughter could have worked that scenario out ! We’ve only got two weeks of the window left so not exactly earth shattering ‘in the know’ is it !

I think your name says it all.

Didn't you say the same about Taylor last week? I'm sure you said something like if it isn't done bu Thursday we'll move on. Was progress made last week ?

Sounds like Scotchers' handler at the club is not feeling confident on Taylor & is starting to put out some face-saving spin on the situation.

Can't recall saying that, but things have moved a little.

The situation is that we have spoken with him and put a deal together that was being considered by all parties at the beginning of the week. However, Bristol City were pissed with the way it had come out in the press and that had soured the process. That has delayed things, and whilst the deal is far from dead it hasn't progressed the way we would have liked. My understanding is that Taylor would prefer to come here. But he doesn't want to drop his wages significantly and is looking at a pay off from City. They are reluctant to do this and hope that we'll up our offer, which, after Saturday, we might! But if not then it will be a case of seeing who blinks first. But with 4 games in the next 12 days then we wont wait for long and other options are being looked at.

I know that is very generic and the stuff that some granddaughters can come up with, but that's where we are!

I’ve been told by an ex Bristol Rovers player that Taylor went from £4k to £14k a week at Bristol City!!!

Question 1: Is anyone else as desperately in need of a striker as us?

Question 2: How many players that fit the bill and at the right age are currently available?

Maybe we HAVE to push the boat out and get this one over the line.

If City are willing to let him go for a knock down or no fee, then it’s perfectly reasonable to subsidise his wage drop with a large signing on fee. The club wouldn’t be breaking its salary structure/cap and would end up paying about the same as a larger transfer fee and lower salary. It’s all wooden dollars. It would all depend on whether City are prepared to let him go on the cheap to save the wage bill and Taylor accepting he isn’t going to get the same salary in Div 1.

Nope. I’ve read this several tomes now and still have no clue. ‘CEO Mark Ashton looks to close a switch for one of City’s forward transfer targets such as Keiffer Moore and Lucas Joao’. Anyone...?

Well they can’t close in on those targets because their window is shut.
Also according to transfer market reading paid over 4 million for Joao on August 6th.
So my guess is this is old news!

Wonder who the other club(s) are. Im guessing Peterborough, with the Godden money.
Wouldn't surprise me they love signing players and then Annoying them by overloading in one position not able to play them. Someone from Eisa (record signing for them), Toney who's is quality at this level and then Taylor. Not sure any of them would be happy to not start each week. They'd be better going for a raw young striker who they can bleed into the side with the other two as the main firing power.

‘Oxfords hopes of signing Matty Taylor on loan appear to be waning amid interest from elsewhere in league 1’

If he does end up signing for a rival league 1 club I think that will once and for all put to bed romantic notions of Matty Taylor ever ‘coming home’

Perhaps that’s a slight exaggeration but then again I wouldn’t be surprised if wages were that high. If figures like that are what’s required then I wonder what our plan would be should it ever happen!
Anyway if he is on that sort of money you can see why a deal would be a long old drawn out affair. That balance between City not losing too much, us not paying too much and the player wanting to earn as much as possible! Nightmare. If Taylor is the man we go for I would not be surprised if it isn’t until the end of the window.
