Potential New Ground

I understand that Firoka paid the cost of the new pitch. Sure I heard this on Radox.
Yes I heard that. I find it really hard to believe.
Do any of our ITK friends know whether this is true and if so why would he suddenly do the club a favour?

I'm not sure on the specifics of having the pitch re-laid but my understanding is that it is part of the contractual arrangement and what is included in the frankly obscene service charges we pay. This isn't Firoka getting all charitable on us, we have paid them 10 fold what they have put into the stadium.

He’s getting close to having to negotiate another lease with the club. Maybe he feels milking us for the best part of £1M per annum is a lot less hassle than dealing with demolition/planning/construction companies and LA’s, so wants to butter us up a bit..

Does he have to negotiate? I thought it was a rolling agreement. Another 25 year license. Charges to be set as per the original set up - increasing costs, of course!

I dont think that can be true.
The service charge should be based on costs incurred on the Stadium.
Bow whether those costs are 'reasonable' or bot us another thing, but excluding rent there is no way that we should have paid Firoka more than they have put in the stadium (excluding a management fee)

I think the reason for the dispute over the service charge was that we were being charged for maintenance that either didn't happen or was done on the cheap.

However, that aside, even if Firoka have paid for the pitch to be re-laid that will either be from money we've previously paid or will be billed as part of the service charges going forward. The one thing we can be pretty certain of is that this wasn't a free gift out of the clubs custodian own back pocket!

I'd heard there is no automatic right of renewal, an item of information that should be clarified asap.
For years on here on numerous occasions it has been said that we can renew the licence on the same terms.
I believe that the club have confirmed that. They certainly have never appeared to be in a hurry to move!
Maybe Oxvox or Colin could confirm and it could be bookmarked!

I'm not saying I'm correct but I heard this first hand from a senior OUFC source recently and so confirmation one way or the other would be useful.

I know nothing about anything, but isn’t it a shame that the council don’t get involved?

The club is a big part of Oxfordshire, and does a lot in the community - and could do even more.

Imagine the council teaming up with the club and both contributing to a huge stadium/leisure complex with a massive leisure centre, gym, Olympic swimming pool etc as well as a 20-25k stadium which could be used for concerts, boxing and other sports events (a bit like what Plymouth have with the life centre but bigger, wider scope and nicer)

You could even throw in a cinema, restaurants, shopping centre as well if you like, get some funding from private companies paying to have locations there.

Hotels too ... can never have too many hotels -( or cinemas, shops n restaurants) ;)

Exactly - a massive development like that (in a previously empty site) would only make Oxfordshire better and more catered for, and would be a big legacy project, councils love that. We could tell them that we’ll put a statue up to the brave men and women on the council who made it happen ?

So basically the Kassam then. Albeit its just not finished and well utilised.

Plus a 20-25k seater is way to big for us. Most we would need is 15k max.

Say we get 7-8k now. Add 1-2k for us doing well enough to get promoted. Then add 2-3k for playing in a higher league, more exposure etc. Then add bigger Championship teams filling out an away end - add 3-4k. That’s 17k! So let’s meet in the middle and build a 20k stadium ?

No, got to look forwards. We've filled the current ground in Conference games, if we make the Championship and have teams like Birmingham and Leeds bringing 3000 away fans, suddenly 15000 is looking a touch small.
I do like the idea of an 'expandable' stadium, like the late Nene Park, where the single decker stands had been built so that an upper section could be added if ever required. That would mean the ground isn't two thirds empty in L1 (8,000 in a 20,000 seater) and is expandable (relatively easily and cheaply) in the Championship.
