Away Match Day Thread +++ 03/08/2019 L1: Sunderland v OUFC MDT +++

Thought we played very very well. The crowd were like an extra player for sunderland baying for every decision and the ref crumbled under the pressure giving them everything. No way should dickies goal have been disallowed - awful decision. And no way should have been a pen. - awful decision. Then some of their free kicks given were laughable while we got nowt. Thought all our players performed very well and a special shout out to Dickie who was immense.

Now Dickie is back on his preferred side (and Morris will play on the left) I suspect we will see how good a player he can be this season.

Draw away at Sunderland. Will always take that.

Good result, that.
I agree with you, but let’s keep it in perspective, we by all accounts were the better side today and were robbed of 3 points.Sunderland are shite and drew 10 games at home last season and they ain’t all that, in fact they will be weeeker this season. This big club tag counts for F@ck all as we well know after our protracted period in the Conference. Sunderland are becoming a real pet hate of mine and I hope they stay in Div 3 (old money I know) for the for years to come. I am of an age when I fondly remembered smashing them 5:1 at the Manor in 1972, and they didn’t like that much ? and my brother left me in the Supporters Club after the game for safe keeping with a fizzy drink for a few minutes to protect the honour of the London Road ?

Well for what it’s worth great point,Oxford seemed up for the game.
Never a penalty, strangely the Sunderland supporters agree and are saying useless refereeing!!
Dickie, great game and can see why we tried so hard to get Cadden.
Have to say my heart sank when McGuire came on.
COYY

It was a penalty all day long.

We looked so tired after 30mins, especially Woodburn and Fosu. Really glad we managed a point in the end which I didn’t think we’d do once giving a penalty away so soon in the 2nd half.

Thought it was a gritty, sussed performance and we thoroughly deserved the point.

Dickie was the best player on the pitch, so much improved now he’s on the right.

Very impressed with Gorrin and Cadden, who is a cut above in quality over Sam Long.

Loved the ground; hear it was built for only £15m. Sunderland have some clever midfielders but they’re so one paced as a team.

Ref diabolically one-eyed. His double act with the lino made me wonder whether he’d taken a bung. Worst performance since Joe Ross in that Scunthorpe game years ago.

Call me an optimist but If we can get some pace and devil up front we can get playoffs or better.

COYY.

Well said! Happy days!

That referee. There are no words. You just can’t really say anything when someone is THAT bad. Unreal.

We need more pace going forward. If we still had Gav I think we’d have won the game despite the referee doing his best to throw it their way. Add a proper striker who is mobile and can move around a bit, and a pacy forward who can counter, and that should spice things up nicely.

Given the team was full of newbies who have not had one pre season game together, I think we did well. A disallowed goal, a penalty that was debatable and was given by a weak ref.
Sunderland are living on their past. They think they have a god given right to win every game because they are a well supported club and thought that last year. They are already calling for Ross to be replaced, after the first game of the season FFS. They are in league One for a reason. They’re not good enough.

Let them moan on past glories. It’s very entertaining and better than Sat night tv. Happy with our start and performance. COYY
