Away Match Day Thread +++ 16/07/19 PSF: Eastleigh v OUFC MTD +++

Bit of a hammering at the moment, youngsters looking out of their depth at times.

Yeah we didn’t play well, Eastleigh could have scored a couple more. We should really have scored but we definitely didn’t deserve to win.

To be fair to the young players, Sykes and Hanson looked no better than they did. Poor all round really, only Jack Stevens could really be said to not have done much wrong

I'm not entirely sure what this match is proving except that our young players can't really compete with senior players even at Eastleigh's level never mind L1. And judging by KRs comments after the game the other day, he knows that already.

Lets face it this whole series of pre season games has been a bit weird. Starting with Rangers when we had no games before and still hadn't got any players brought in. It went downhill from there on out with one game after another on consecutive days. No time to gel, just get fit (or more probably knackered). Then end up with a bunch of teenagers desperately trying to play against seasoned professionals. Did their confidence no end of good!

I think that's all the proof we need. We could have put in some great performances against Rangers, Oxford City, Woking, Eastleigh etc. but that would have papered over the cracks somewhat. These youngsters may get some game time in the first team, but most likely a few minutes here and there. All these games are good experience for them though, more so than playing other teams of their age, and hopefully some of them will make the step up in the next couple of years.

Its been an absolute mess. Totally pointless game tonight, we dont have the depth for so many games.

I agree that it has been odd. You'd have thought that the 'youth' team would have played the middle match last week and the full team would have played tonight to begin to learn to play together. As it is we now have QPR on Saturday and the first team is not only incomplete but has not had much time on the pitch together for the players we HAVE got. Many of the young players are a million miles away from the first team so it's not only squad numbers that are worrying, it is squad depth, since the club really cannot pretend the youngsters are part of the first team squad.

Again, I agree with that. Useful experience for the youngsters in the long term maybe, but in terms of getting ready for a league season this was a waste of a PSF.
