I have a feeling the next two weeks will be pivotal to our season. Get the right players in and we'll be in the play-off hunt come January, which will hopefully encourage the board to strengthen further.

Trying to work out how confident Robinson actually is. The message seems, as ever, to be ‘we’re trying to get really good players but might not get them, so might have to go to plan B. But it’s now time to get players in’. I think it alludes to situations like the big money CB, do we wait any longer or do we sign Guthrie? The question then will be does the money go towards a player in a different position or does it just go back into the ‘coffers’? I suppose the positive thing is we have the finances to at least try for the better players.

If it’s a toss up between a really good CB or Guthrie the surely we have to wait. We can’t pin our hopes on him as the CB of a promotion chasing side. Wreaks of a panic signing to me.

This is the same as last summer.

Or not!

This article seems different to the comments made the other day when it felt that something could happen imminently, whereas, now this sounds uncertain.

cannot see how he sounds confident from reading that and there's nothing different from 5/6 weeks ago in that we know there is a list..
if you're not sure player x can do this or that then why have him on trial? also suggests that if he wants the best players for the club (obviously) but could still end up with those that he believes are not i presume.
also if radox suggested a big offer was in for a player, he does not appear to confirm that in that article or that we're anywhere near a signing yet we were led to belive Monday is a big day. all very strange but then this is oxford United and we're use to it all by now

Boring.

Nothing like last summer. The quality of targets appears a huge up grade and it isn’t difficult to get your head around the fact that better quality players have more interest in them hence more of a struggle closing deal.

However you want top look at it, facts can be boring too... Deja vu

We were after big targets this time last year.

I think it’s about getting your targets, not who you go for. For example, I reckon we could go for Messi, but the chances of getting him I’d say were fairly slim!

I’ll wait to pass really judgement near to when the season starts, so was just passing my thoughts at this stage which in my eyes feels similar to last summer at present.

Fingers crossed it changes and this is Robinson’s playing a bit of kidology!

What big targets last year did Robinson name last summer and I mean actually come out and confirm we were in for ? Other than Smith I can’t recall one. Houlihan was mentioned briefly in a radio interview but that was nothing more than a registered interest at best.

This summer Robinson has actually named and confirmed offers for a Welsh international in Evans, a full Scottish international in Cadden and has admitted to tabling a half million pound bid for one of the stand out centre backs in the SPL last season.

People always use the ‘we could target Messi/Ronaldo, who you’re targeting means nothing’ analogy, but I could just as easily say ok we just need signings, so they can offer me a wage and I’ll take it, and I’m sure we could get one of the Woking lads as well, and the guy who lives in a tent down the park.

Our targets aren’t necessarily unrealistic, but it’s not just about signing anyone. There’s plenty of players who’d love to come here and wouldn’t be hard to get, but also wouldn’t be an improvement on what we have...
