Away Match Day Thread +++ 07/07/19 PSF: - Glasgow Rangers v OUFC MDT +++

Do you really think that's how it works? Get beaten by five in your first pre-season game and you are inoculated against the same happening in the league? :) It's certainly a novel theory, I'll give you that...
I don't think that game we've just watched/listened to will have much effect on the season really - just seems like an odd choice for the first PSF.

I swear last season we were complaining about starting against poor quality Irish teams where even Obika could get a hatful of goals.

We weren’t great going forward but the commentator on Rangers TV would have you believe that we never crossed the half-way line.
Had to watch with the sound turned down! I suppose it's because it's the club channel, but calling it 'one-eyed' would be very kind!

What a very good fifth goal, lots of one-touch passes. I only saw the second half, but we looked reasonable going forward and there was some nice passing in midfield to the wings. The game showed exactly where we are. Our first pre-season game, lacking some sharpness, and missing a couple of players up front and in defence. Rangers are a class above us, and would compete at the top end of the Championship so the scoreline isn't particularly relevant.

I queried this match when it was first announced. Proven right really. Only thing out of it is what we already knew. Needs for a new centre back and an out and out striker. Nothing has changed.

We did get some match fitness in to the legs as well. ?

Doesn't seem like there's much chance of a good pre-season papering over the obvious cracks. Good thing in my book.

Time to show some intent by strengthening where it's needed so we can hit the ground running before the train set hits us.

Well done the teddy bears!

I watched it online and it was a decent work out at this time of the pre season.

Four players needed on that showing - CF, 2CBs and a RB. Sprinkle in a few loan players to bulk the squad out and we’ll be fine.

Plus points for me were Whyte, Fosu, Hall and Napa. Dickie, Henry, Ruffels, Easty and Brannigan were solid. Hanson looked more comfortable at RB than Long. Stevens seems to have grown in stature a bit over the summer and seemed more confident in ‘owning’ the number 1 jersey if needed.

Lopes, Allardyce, Jones and Lofthouse looked further away from being ready than I was hoping although it’s early days and above average opposition so I might be being harsh. McCreadie looked comfortable and steady though.

I'd say a little harsh on the U23s there, considering they had a handful of minutes against a much stronger Rangers XI than the first team had to face.

Jones and Lofthouse looked okay to me.

07/07/10, @bicesterox ....?

Why, that's before I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Rangers were even founded!

Christ, even Celtic fans would be embarrassed using that patter.

Anyway how does it feel to watch your team getting humped by a club only a few years old? ?

The 4 U23's you mentioned were 4 of the better players on the pitch. Allardyce and Jones had better cameos then Long did and Lopes and Lofthouse showed glimpses of promise against rangers strongest side.
