Hopefully we get this summer transfer window right, it has been poor the last two seasons but now with a settled ownership and manager expectations should be higher, given how affluent the board is you can't help thinking this summer transfer market has to be better than recent previous ones, we will have to be patient I think..

There is a fine line between just missing out on targets and have them join on the right terms beneficial to the club so indeed a great deal of patience and understanding is required.

KR already mentioned in the OM what position he’s looking to recruit in

Right Back
Centre Back
2x Defensive Midfielders
2/3 Wingers/forward
Centre Forward

Personally I don’t think we need 2 DCM as we still have Hanson, Mousinho (as cover when needed) if he get Kashi that’s 3 plus as we saw 2nd half of last season Kashi - Brannagan did a brilliant job together in a 4-2-3-1 formation & gave us a bit creative spark in that middle 2 with Brannagan being in there

With Robbie Hall signed up now I think we’ll only be looking for 2 on the Left now Browne Graham Garbutt all gone back hopefully Fosu could be 1 of the 2 needed

Centre forward we need 2 minimum (been our problem for 2 seasons now) only 10 goals in the league from all our number 9s last season, Mackie did a job for us in games last season but he’s legs are basically gone & never had a knack for scoring goals with the amount of good chances he had in quiet a few games last season, I think we should be looking at him as a bit part player/3rd choice instead of 2nd choice striker

Yes, of course, it would be desirable to have signings before the preseason, but that would depend on whether the players we are viewing are weighing their options, are on holiday, or have other commitments with family etc. They may have agreed terms but are not finalised yet for personal reason, who knows. I do feel though that we will not make the same decisions that we made last preseason regarding recruitment, because the introduction of the new board members, fitness department and better/more advanced u23 and youth players assisting with plans to negate previous mistakes.
That's my reading of things anyway. We will all know by the start of the season what has occurred and not before, so l am going to wait and see.

That is fair enough, we can only wait and see.

KR has said publicly that one of the lessons learnt from last season was the need to get more players in earlier than we did last year. One of the reasons for our slow start was the fact that there were too many late arrivals, some of whom weren't fit. I understand why a couple of attacking loans may be quite late signings, those do typically happen later across the leagues.

Lets wait and see if that lesson has been learnt.

So training begins a week Monday.
You would hope that the 2 KR implied are close will be agreed by then.
He did suggest that of the 7 or so to be signed, a couple of the wide/ forward signings will come late (presumably loan signings from higher up)
So a couple of more to come in over the next 2 to 3 weeks?

if business is not done early does it really follow that lessons were not learned ?

You can sell the club to potential new players with talk of ambition and where they'll fit in etc but the players and their Agents have all the power and will hold out to the highest payer possible and if they fail to squeeze more elsewhere they'll join and tell you coming here was a no brainer :)

That is assuming Mous stays after the report from the other week where KR basically said he will be used less and whether Mous was prepared to move into a player-coach role. From that I take it KR would be prepared to let him go if he wanted regular 1st team elsewhere so it is down to Mous.

We will have to wait and see on your opinion on Hall and Mackie, bit hard to be positive about Hall given how injury prone he is, I think Mackie's worth is far greater to the team.

I appreciate you are saying IF we do not sign players early etc. BUT if you think the incoming transfer situation is already a problem does your thinking, as there is no mention of Nelson leaving, believe that he is going to stay. Thought not. We wanted transfer business done early but reality gets in the way and we just have to remain pragmatic and patient.

Have to agree with Hall, hopefully he can return, remain fit/uninjured and, just as importantly, show us the skills he had previously. On Mackie, I changed my mind as he got fitter. A real inspiration to those around him and real entertainment in his quest to upset every opposing player he could! Maybe he didn't score so many but he made many more just by being a bloody pain in the a**e! What it would be to find a younger version ready to be polished as the finished article with his help.

The clubs are the ones with the least power when it comes to trying to sign players at this time of year. Any player who is in demand will hold out for the best deal - of course, it's a game of nerves to see who blinks first! Which is why saying that you'll 'do your business early' simply makes you a hostage to fortune - the players (and as has been said, their agents!) might simply not be willing to commit!
I'm still putting down a marker of the Glasgow Rangers game as a date by which we need to have filled many of the holes in the squad.

I don’t think it’s panic time just yet. As it stands:
Peterborough lead the way with 7 players in!
Coventry and Gillingham - 5
Bristol and MK dons - 4
Ipswich and Pompy - 3
Rotherham and Shrewsbury - 2
AFC Wimbledon, Southend, Accrington, Sunderland, Doncaster, burton, Blackpool and Rochdale all with just 1 player in.
Finally
Lincoln, Bolton, fleetwood, tranmere, bury, Wycombe and of course Oxford with a big fat 0!
Not including the under 23’s.

Given last seasons awful summer window, which undoubtedly contributed to our very poor start, I can understand fans being a little twitchy. Me included.

The Oxford mail running the same stuff. I read a quote saying we’re close to a couple of signings... soon. Stories about us scouting (insert country) for players to fill the void.

In reality if we sign just 1 player we’d be above or on par with 15 other league one clubs.

Let’s give it a couple of weeks before getting too worried.
