Club meeting Kassam - 28th May

I stand corrected .... memory aint what it was.... that said I vaguely recall something along the lines of 9500 being average home attendances at the Manor during our 3 years in the top flight (mid 80s) ? though that too could be me memory playing tricks on me?
We certainly ended up at 9500, think that was as time moved on into the mid 90s

I'm astonished people think we wouldn't average 10k in the Championship when we're averaging over 7k in League 1. We haven't been in the second tier for 20 years, in which time it's turned into a massively marketed league.
Our return to that level would be such a relief for us I'd be amazed if even the most fairweather fans would want to miss out. We've plummeted to the depths of non-league and almost lost our club in that time, getting back to the Championship would see a lot of fans return, and a lot of new fans appear too. Now imagine if we actually built a stadium people wanted to visit too...

Really? for Barnsley charlton fleetwood accrington wimbledon bury lincoln replace with brentford preston hull boro wigan bristol city millwall no bigger attraction for floating "Home" fans

The added cost to attend in the championship would prevent many from attending regular, when we were still in with chance of a play off place we had small crowds against 2 of the top 3 sides at home as many preferred the day out at Boro in the cup. That was a sign of lack of interest from wider support and perhaps affordability for many others.
i've said previously the wrong games are pushed hard by marketing team, trying to fill the place against sunderland is all well and good but what attracts new fans to Oxford v Fleetwood? a few similar games with free entry may just swing it for some and perhaps have them return but of course it all comes down to the on field product and the powers that be must also realize that for many the Leisure spend is already stretched.
I completely understand your sentiment behind the free game idea, and in normal circumstances it would be a great way of introducing ‘neutrals’ who have free time on their hands on a Saturday afternoon and are wondering what to do with it. However, the clubs that try this strategy have one crucial element in their favour that we dont: owning their own ground, or at least, benefit from the food and drink sales that those extra bums on seats bring. Apart from the potential of attracting extra fans that, it has to be accepted, is a little hit and miss, the only real beneficiary is FK unfortunately.

Oxfordshire has next to no competing similar leisure attractions, in fact Oxford for a place of its population (and a place at the centre of a county of nearing a million people and growing) is very badly served by the leisure industry, poor facilities compared to the rest of the country.
hopefully this is what ET and friends have noticed and what they plan on building on

Owning the ground has no bearing on free entry, short term pain for long term gain, there are no extra costs involved and there are people sat on the seat that would otherwise be empty and they may just return but as i stated before much depends on the on field product.

Seriously? So you are suggesting that people would equally see Oxford v Accrington in L1 to Oxford v Brentford or Middlesb in the Championship? I think that floating supporters would be far more interested in going to a Championship game than a L1 game.

Yep, I’m not disagreeing with you, just putting forward a reason why I don’t think we’ll ever see it happening.

The League has no bearing on the point being made, it's the "pull" of the opposition in relation to increased attendence..those i used as examples are no big attraction to a floating fan or much needed new one's imho

Ah ok.
I would argue however that there is a much bigger draw in the Championship than L1 PLUS Leeds, Forest, Derby, Fulham, Reading Cardiff. Generally would be bigger draw than most L1 clubs

I think all those you've mentioned have a much larger pull. Many there we haven't played competitively against for years, they're a new name for many younger fans, new clubs to watch us against, clubs who have established themselves in the top 2 tiers whilst we've been the opposite.
Add to that the feel good factor of promotion and somewhere we haven't been for 20 years and you'll see lots of floating fans attending more regularly

We want more attractive opposition to pull? - I heartedly agree ? ❤️?

We made a significant last season. Attendance wise we are an average home attendance club.
Last season the average wage expenditure in league 1 was 6 million whilst in the championship average wage expenditure was 33 million.
An increase in average attendance to 10k mean without a sugar daddy to fund it that promotion would likely lead to a ‘Burnley’ like survival campaign whilst we haemorrhage money.
Without a stadium with the income it provides we are fighting at the right level for us unless that sugar daddy does appear...

This whole discussion is also missing that the away support would increase therefore pushing the average gate higher

If we scuffed around in the championship for a couple of years, losing most weeks, we’d get no more v Boro than we did against Portsmouth this year. If we had a new or Improved ground, new owners, big marketing effort, new rail halt, etc we’d fill the place in League 1

Yes definitively. But.... that is where the 4th stand is needed.
Safe standing in new Stand and give OM stand to the away supporters . At the moment we only give 1700 tickets to away teams and a number of Championship clubs would bring far more than that. So unless we give half of the North Stand to away supporters or Kassam let's us have a 4th stand (?), then the away support would be much lower than it could be.
