Home Match Day Thread +++ 13/04/2019 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon Match Day Thread +++

I would agree that Wimbledon were one of the worst teams I have seen here this season, but that should in no way cheapen what was an almost total domination job by us on them.
Nelson and Dickie bossed it to such a degree that they took it in turns to carry the ball forward and if there was any justice at all, then Dickie would have got the goal his marauding run and shot deserved.
Sykes and Whyte combined well and there are few finer sights than seeing Gavin Whyte jinking past terrified defenders.
If he can marry that to some real end product then there is no limit to what he can achieve.
I thought that Jordan Graham was a little flat when he came on and elected to check or pass back a little too often for a player who has most defenders on toast.
For me though, Cameron Brannagan shone with a performance of quiet, ruthless efficiency, he reminds me of Ledson, but I think he may well be better.
All round, a slightly disappointing draw but there was much to be admired in our team play today.

Thought we played well today and on another day could've won by 3 or 4. Their keeper made some decent saves and a couple of other times our finishing was a bit rash. On the whole though there was a real gulf in class between the two teams. Wimbledon were laughably poor and their time wasting was embarrassing - surely they should've be going all out for a win?

I thought Nelson and Dickie were both brilliant today. It's such a shame that partnership is going to be broken up. I also thought Sykes had a really good game, first half especially. He's technically very good and doesn't shy away from the ball; he'll be a very useful player next season and I'm looking forward to seeing him (hopefully) have a run of games in the starting 11.

Charlton will be a very different sort of test and it will be interesting to truly see how far we've progressed. The last two teams that we've played have been truly awful, so I'm looking forward to a better quality match on Friday.

I think Wimbledon were the worst we’ve seen after Scunny and Bradford. Oddly Southend and Walsall were pretty good. Suspect Wombles will narrowly escape but I was surprised by how unadventurous they were when a win would have been so significant for them.

It was the quality of the saves as well though, a couple he had no right to keep out. I still wouldn’t class that as “cutting edge” though I think we showed plenty of it, (gav ripped their lb apart time after time) just lack of final finish
Partly disagree. Two were straight at him. Better placed shots would have won us the game.

myn God they are an awful team to watch. Their main tactic seemed to be to throw themselves to the ground to win a free kick. It worked as the ref was so poor.
We’ve played some poor footy in the past, but what Wimbledon serve up is dire.
As Tim on RadOx said, “I hope they go down”.
Also, all this crap about MK Dons, ridiculous, if the people of Wimbledon had supported their club in the first place, they would have continued.

A few points:

- We played some really nice football at times.

- Rob Dickie was excellent, definitely man of the match for me. Some of his passing was superb with the ball to Jordan Graham being a highlight. Not a bad shot at goal from distance either.

- Gavin Whyte terrified their defence but not much end product today. He has the potential to be a top player, but in pre-season he needs to work with somebody like Chrissy Hackett on crosses for a day or 2. He could also do with working with a sports psychologist as well as once he can find some composure at key moments, he'll score for fun and set up goals by the bucket load.

- Kashi would be back in the team against Charlton for me. Even with us dominating the game, which felt like an "attack Vs defence" training session at times, Kashi seems to add a spark for me.

On form, I'd happily keep Sykes in ahead of Henry as well. Sykes was decent today and his 1st touch is generally excellent.

- The officials were awful. How the rugby tackle by the keeper was missed by both the Ref and the Lino was laughable.

- How incredibly petty and unprofessional of their "waterboy" not to shake Karl Robinson's hand. Wimbledon really do show a distinct lack of class as this isn't unique for them.

Sorry, I don't think you can ever justify moving a club just because of attendance sizes. Yeah maybe they could move on now, but the argument that it was their own fault as they didn't have enough fans is no excuse to move a club to another city. This isn't franchise sport in the US.

They'll survive as they have that luck that is needed in a relegation run in.

They were dogshit. Still, I reckon that was the best team performance of the season in terms of control and threat, a bit of confidence does no harm.

I'd definitely have Sinclair if we can afford him. We will miss Nelson like a lung but the Dickster is stepping up, shame his shot didn't go in. Graham showed why we don't need him.

I suppose I have to say well done to Mr Robinson. Good show.

Was he trying to win some brownie points with the Wimbledon fans maybe? I know Robinson was manager of franchise fc but is there more to the hatred towards him from them that I’ve missed?!
A mate of mine is a AFCW season ticket holder
They hate MK Dons
Therefore they hate Robinson
Tbf, think how we would regard a long standing Sw**don manager?

The fans I understand but a club official is supposed to act professionally. Then Wimbledon have form for acting pathetically over this at a professional level.

Wimbledon aren't angels either when you think they have killed off a historic dog track stadium for their new stadium.

hope they go back to non-league in the next few years to be honest..back to where they belong.. A s**t club with a s**t ground..and by the sound of it today some totally s**t staff! A complete and utter waste of a Football League place..hope they are replaced by a proper club in the fullness of time.

How bad were Wimbledon technically? So unskillful, so limited. Basically a well organised pub team. We honestly should have won five or six. It was like us being at home to a Southern League team in the cup and have them play the game of their lives. Eastwood could have spent 90 minutes doing the crossword sitting in a deckchair.

You can’t win em all though.

Sykes was great today. I fear for Henry’s future.
Mousinho a cut below Kashi.

I think we’re going to do well next term.

Todays match reminded me of some of our earlier matches this season. Played some lovely football but couldnt score for toffee. I was expecting a scrambled wombles goal at the end as it looked to be one of those days. We have a good team and with confidence this team has a bright future.

AFC fans on twitter getting very excited over this video:
Anyone know what it's about? Is that the kit man who ghosted him at the final whistle? They're making a meal of it but it does look a bit unseemly from our guy.
They spent the entire game abusing Robbo; he’s entitled to give a bit back. Three points would have been better of course.
