No - that's direct democracy. That's Switzerland. Britain isn't a direct democracy, it's a representative democracy.
The government's job is absolutely to serve the British people.....and if they believe that thne best way to serve the people is to ignore the non-binding result of a referendum, that most of all revealed Britain to be a deeply and evenly divided nation on this issue, then it is absolutely within their job description to do so. They then face the consequences of those actions at the next election.
Which actually I'm now at the point of thinking is what this country needs - get the delay until June 30th and immediately call a general election.
Everyone now knows how their MP has voted on Brexit, and therefore we can all vote accordingly in a General Election.
If all the MPs that defied their constituencies' referendum wishes and voted against Brexit, and against No Deal, then lose their seats in favour of Brexit-supporting candidates then we know that No Deal Brexit is the people's wish and we can leave accordingly.
If a large number of MPs that voted in favour of No Deal lose their seats in favour of pro-Remain candidates, then we can revoke Article 50 and cancel Brexit.
If we end up with a parliament that's just as divided as the current one - then we know that it properly reflects the opinions of the people, and then the government can go ahead and continue muddling on as they have been doing.
But that is how our democracy is supposed to work. Representatives making decisions on our behalf, and then facing the consequences if the majority of their constituents disagree. We now know what the viewpoint of each and every MP is, because it's on record many times over the past two weeks; so perfect time for another election with all of us voters being armed with that information.
100% correct if Brexit does not happen by the new deadline.Does Junior have a point?

Or is he just trolling
None of the high profile Brexiteers from the campaign stood in the election to replace Cameron as PM, for their own personal reasons that we can all specualte over, hence the option to have one in charge of negotiations did not exist...I agree with a short delay 2-3 months only. Any longer than that, then we won’t be leaving which imo will cause chaos.
Anyway I’d like to see May relieved of her duties. She’s massively out of her depth. Her biggest mistake was when she went to Brussels with cap in hand saying “what can you give us” she should of said “this is what we want” It should of (sic) been a Brexiteer put in as PM to follow this through.

I don't agree. I DO agree that in normal times, that is how our democracy is set up. But this whole debacle is the over-riding issue at the moment, and whether or not any GE is set up as a second referendum - that is exactly how it will be treated. And if none of the candidates in my constituency offer me the chance to vote - on this one issue - the way I want then I am entirely disenfranchised. That's quite often the case for many people in every general election of course (for example Tory voters in solid Labour seats and vice versa, most people who support a minority party) and a potent argument for PR - which would also IMO lead to a more consensual, grown up and modern parliament.
Agree wholeheartedly about PR - but of course the option for that any time soon got nixed by the other referendum of the last decade. Because referendums suck .
I'd almost guarantee that the Lib Dems will field a candidate everywhere that will be pro-EU, and that UKIP will field a candidate everywhere that has a pro-Remain MP. So if you want to prioritise the Brexit issue, then there'll be someone you can vote for wherever you live in the UK.
If other issues are more important to you, you can vote Tory or Labour or whomever reflects your general opinion best. Although I struggle to see why anyone would cast a vote for either party at the moment...….
Jeremy Corbyn refused to join meeting with opposition leaders because Chuka Umunna was there. “He’s not a proper party leader”. Corbyn walked out.
We are in the middle of a national crisis and the leader of the opposition is behaving like a 12 year old. Beggars belief.
I'll meet with Hamas, meet with the IRA (to ensure all voices are heard) but I won't meet with Chukka cause he ain't an official leader and I'll flounce off. It's stunningly hilarious from the 2nd most incompetent leader in UK politics today at the most inopportune time. In some respects, that move has put him in 1st place.Jeremy Corbyn refused to join meeting with opposition leaders because Chuka Umunna was there. “He’s not a proper party leader”. Corbyn walked out.
