Malachi Napa

Malachi Napa looked outstanding. Many people (including me) were disappointed when he went out on loan.

Even 2 years before, when he wasn't the complete article, Callum O'Dowda showed that he had great skill and talent, and could play at a much higher level. He went from Division 1 up to Championship. Napa, went to gain game time at a lower league, to a team who were bottom and couldn't make the bench.
I simply think we need a better quality of player if we are serious about progressing. We do have prospects in the U 18's and U23's. Armani little is one that sticks out for me. Against Spurs he had a great game.
I've said already Napa didn't make the bench through injury. You ignoring things that don't fit your agenda again?

This is something we have to be careful of. Napa has potential but can we call him ‘outstanding’ yet? I wouldn’t say so.

I do forget that he only 19 and not all players develop at the same rate so he does have time which is exactly how COD developed. Napa needs to fill out a bit – he’s quick and skilful, but slight. He’s never going to be a tall, bulky player but he does need to develop the physicality to wriggle out of situations, draw fouls and pressure players in order to make a difference.

Good to know that he’s over the virus and can start looking ahead to next season too.

TBH he’s never really impressed me, he’s small and not strikingly skilful, though he can show great determination. Really hope I’m wrong

I thought he was in his early 20's. Well therefore I kind of take some of my summary back, as he has time to get to what you've mentioned above. Bulk up especially, and he could well make the grade. He still needs game time though, until he gets the opportunity when it comes along.

Such strong opinions, with out checking the most basic facts... Wow!

Perhaps in future we might get an informed opinion rather than the nonsense expressed repeatedly on this thread?

Ideally not Just this thread.

Worth pointing out that O'Dowda had his 'breakthrough' season when he was 20/21. Even during that season his form was a bit up and down at times. Prior to that he was frequently written off as being too weak or not good enough. Napa is still not even 20, so let's give him a chance. He could go on to be a really useful player next season.

Not to your posts mate. You're ignored.?
We left such archaic, childish responses in the dark ages, well most of us.
I bet you only joined the forum to make yourself look a prat.

Once he's got over his illness (sounds serious) then a quick close season steroid cycle should bulk him up

But that's the idea of a forum, healthy debate and opinions. Not ignoring someone cos you don't like their reply and calling them childish responses then following that with your last sentence.
No doubt I'll be ignored now

Every player's journey is different. I see no one's mentioned the former Oxford player who's current playing for Bristol City. No, not O'Dowda; Matty Taylor. And he hardly set the world alight when he came through our youth system. The truth is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to youth development. Some thrive on loans, some remain at the club, some get injuries, some peak early, some are late bloomers and some get thrust into the first team to fill gaps in the first team squad. Comparing players' journeys ultimately is a fruitless exercise.

Clearly you didn't read his post. If you did you would see how pathetic it was. It wasn't a post you could reply to or debate. A lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to get away from such personal drivel.
The point of the forum is to give an opinion, and counter it.

Don't worry though admin have converted his membership to Luton Outlaws, where he is doing well, and is amongst friends.

Back off Mellow Yellow, too aggressive. You seem to have a down on Napa and are a serial moaner. I also have my doubts about him but will certainly give him a chance

unMellow,

All you are doing is attacking a player, with facts not supporting your hostility, and then when your attack isn't going well, turning your attention to me.

  • You claim that Napa is not in KR's plans, This is true in the short-term, but in the medium and longer-term you seem to be very wrong. KR gave him a THREE YEAR contract last summer, saying, "He has been great for us and has a really bright future, so it is great to see him commit his future to the club."
  • You claim that he is too "light weight and gets pushed off the ball." He's a young man learning his trade and getting stronger. Was he just 18 when you last saw him play?
  • Then you say that he was "not even getting on the subs bench some games, in a bottom of division 2 side." It's been explained that he has been suffering from a virus that followed a reported "injury", so he wasn't available for selection.
  • You claim that we "need a better quality of player", but how do you reach this conclusion about such a young person, when you've hardly seen him play, and probably never seen him train.
Your comments are "stand-out", and draw attention to you, because they go against the majority view and ignore basic facts.

I suspect he will go out on loan again next season. Whether he does or not, I hope he has an injury and illness free year ahead and does begin to fulfil the potential that many, including the Oxford United coaching staff, see in him.

I am disappointed that a young person (Napa) has been targeted for attack. Where he has deficiencies - or had them last year - I'm sure that he and the coaches will be working on those deficiencies and building on his strengths so that he can become a strong player and have a successful career.

Napa back in training after 3 months out with a virus ....

Here’s hoping,(for those that we retain)all of our long term injured, are fit, fresh and ready for the start of next season.
Likewise the likes of Mackie.
