Away Match Day Thread +++ 12/01/2019 Fleetwood Town v OUFC Match Day Thread +++

I do think Sam Long needs to be one of the first players on the teamsheet for no other reason then having a player that has come through the ranks and loves Oxford as much as we do. Yes Ruffels is from Oxford but he didn't come through the youth team to get to the first. I think it's important in these difficult situations to have a player we can all relate too and wears his heart on his sleeve.

Also where is Napa, Whyte was a semi pro footballer last season, he is going to need someone on the bench as cover as he will eventually run out of steam again like he did in December, but he looks reignited now but we need a back up winger on the bench.
I think Napa has had a minor injury. He travelled to Brentford last week.

Did I see he assisted both goals?

When, next year, we’re sat at the top of league one and all discussing about how worried we are that Robinson is going to be poached by Stoke/ Birmingham/QPR/ Forest we’ll look back at all of this and laugh...

I will be a bit more relaxed next January knowing that we are only a handful of points away from securing the earliest league title in living memory. And Robinson won't give the likes of Stoke and QPR a second look after being touted for the next England Mnaagers role should Southgate struggle at the Euro's.

Just watched the highlights and was wondering, was Nelson playing well below par yesterday? The brief highlights do not show him in a good light.
Mackie, however, looked full of running and remarkably fit for someone with a back injury.
I had given up hope by half time so the turn around in the second half is very encouraging. As in, we can do it if the team tries, just why they don't for the full 90 minutes is a mystery! Twice now where Robbo has had to change his starting line up to deal with tactics he wasn't expecting?

It sounded like he was poor on the radio yesterday maybe his head has been turned

I think it depends what we are looking for. A Yorkshire cricket approach where we support local lads whatever league we are in? Probably idealistic if we also expect success :) It worries me that we have no one in yet, even on loan, and yet are letting players go like Raglan and potentially Holmes (my God we need some strong characters at the club, playing or not. For me there is not even a conversation). We are already bare bones and I hope it isn't a financial thing to reduce costs. Seems odd that the chairs would even suffer the embarrassment of a unpaid tax bill. for what surely is beer money??? Perhaps we are seen as a good trading team. Tiger is astute and whatever his ambitions surely only will invest over the odds when we have got off to good start and he can see a return in the form of potential promotion. I maintain that this year will be one of consolidation financially supported by a lot of clever pre season hype, leaving us all in a pool of shattered dreams. If we can get £5m for Whyte and decent numbers for the off form Nelson, it might be seen as good business (assuming we stay up!) as it builds that war chest for next (or maybe next next, next next next (?) season). We aren't big enough (unless we are genuinely surprised by a huge "chairman" windfall) to go for it every year, so like a poker player we have to pick our spots. If we trade well consistently we can fund promotion, but we have as supporters to be prepared to see our players as temporary assets - the club has no more loyalty to them if we can make a quick profit - it turns us into a massive gamble on whether the scouting team can turn jewels, and this year hasn't been encouraging, in fact all the "diamond" geezers are now scouting for Leeds. Not a great synopsis if like every fan you want to see everyone give 110% and wear their heart on their sleeve. Cat walk divas looking for the next bigger fix comes to mind. Saying that, I love following on ifollow, I still get sulky when we lose, and I wonder whether it is reasonable to ever expect any short term footballer to wear his heart on his sleeve as much as I do. Maybe there should be a referendum to see what sort of club we want, and promote that as a strong ethos, (attractive toy for a billionaire who gets off on making the little guys dreams come true) rather than see random owners with their own agendas which they don't seem to want to back up and aren't necessarily aligned to the wishes of the fans. If e dont sign anyone by weekend, I'm worried. Brexit all over again :)
