Fan's View - Scunthorpe away

Great read. Interesting to hear the scunny side and without reading it's entirety it seems like I would have agreed being in his shoes.

The pints we bought in The Berkeley were £1:30. You were done ?

Maybe unfair criticism but, from watching the highlights you could think that we had never defended set pieces before. How many times do we concede to those low, powerful shots from 20 - 30 yards? There must be someone on the pitch with responsibility to identify situations and spot the potential dangers?

Oh well, we got a point.
FA cup time then. Chance to bring some cash into the club. And, cheap tickets to watch, let's hope that encourages a good crowd.

I'd like to think so but don't think it will.

Always good to read a measured account of the game Paul.
I must admit that when our third went in I thought we were likely to get more.
When they had that free kick my reaction was don't let them get one as a goal could change the game.
Scunthorpe became more and more long ball as the game wore on and seemed to have more height than us. You are right that they deserve credit for not dropping their heads. Had we simply hung on for 10 minutes though they wouldn't have found that immediate impetus.
Brannagan was apparently at fault for giving away both free kicks. Stupidity really.

I agree about the hanging on for 10 minutes. Thing is we just about got our act back together for the last half an hour and didn't concede another which makes talk of capitulation from some of our supporters nonsense. I may be over kind in putting this down to a mad six minutes and focusing more on what our defence has achieve in the rest of the time played during these last six games. (Me being optimistic - now there's a surprise).
But Brannagan has to learn for this. He obviously didn't on the day after giving the first free-kick away.

Cup half empty?

OOM was returning from 'wha-hales' on Saturday (see my earlier not going to away games post) with Mrs OOM giving updates from BBC (Biased Broacasting Corporation) sport and when the third of our goals went in I was elated in my disbelief!

As a C.H.E person, I said "....this is Oxford of course....Scunny will probably equalise, and then nick the winner in the 98th minute of 94...."

Well..3 out of 4 ain't bad?

A point is a point. ?

GREAT REPORT AS EVER, PAUL -Thanks again.

I then watched my B team nearly do the same against Wolves...

Good read as usual, Paul, thank you.
Our first two goals, as you say were well constructed. Good movement, slick passing and great finish. A sign we are improving and perhaps actually doing something technical on the training ground. But perhaps the Scunny supporters might say their defenders were a bit static?
Also the third goal, it was nice for a change to score from a scramble in the six yard box, albeit it should be noted it needed our centre half, rather than a forward, to score it.
And Jamie Mackie, he eventually succeeded in getting booked in the 90th minute, he timed that well to serve his one game suspension in the FA Cup (and the invisible game at Wycombe) then back for the league game in two weeks time (Holiday perhaps?)
But what is more important? FA Cup or league. If we treat the FA Cup seriously we are only 180 minutes, potentially with luck of the draw, from another game against the likes of Man City, A glamour game the club, the fans really like but quite bizarrely I bet KR will put out a changed, slightly weakened team next week.

Giving away free kicks is not as bad as giving away penalties, but still bad. However, I feel the 1st and 3rd Scunny goals were generally a bit hit and hope (noting the sea of legs comment) so we were possibly a tad unfortunate I think.

It is interesting how it can feel like a defeat though. Clearly, a six goal draw would have felt far better had we scored last.
