Fan's View - Charlton Away

Thanks as usual Paul . I didn't go to this game and so great to read your report.
Of course Barnsley were beaten by Charlton in Saturday. You were not hugely complementary about our performance at Rovers.
So it was a very good point. Draws at Sunderland, Southend and Charlton show that we can be competitive with some of the better teams in the league.
Like your mate I reckon Whyte has far more than just pace. On the basis that Callum is playing regularly in a team near the top of the Championship, I can see no reason why Whyte can't also but he needs another season at Oxford after this one first!!

Thanks Paul. I could not go so appreciate the insight. KR seemed frustrated with the team at the start of his Radio ox post match. It could be that he's as frustrated as us in that he knows the fast flowing stuff is in there somewhere but is not escaping often enough.

On your last point paul, why are smoke bombs still being thrown, apart from holding up the game, we, as a club are going to be punished, if that means docked points then whoever throws them might prefer a few weeks inside compared to what a few thousand oxford fans would do to them.

This was one of those games that we wanted to put on our away day calendar but, falling on a Tuesday, work got in the way. I've already got a reputation at work for early finishes on Tuesdays so sadly, this fixture was missed. Shame, the train service (usually) from Liphook to Waterloo means a day out with drinks, a rare treat! Your mention of the Coal Hole brought back some memories of some heady "missions" with mates when I was still single and living in Oxford. (only a few mind you, mostly a blur!)
So, listening at home to Radox with a bottle of medicinal purpose, we groaned as the penalty went in and grew in frustration as the game went on.
The removal of Dickie was, in our view, most timely. His kicking the ball away on Saturday and his antics on Tuesday evening are a worry. Is this though something more symptomatic of the KR style of play? There seems to be a lot more, shall we say, dubious tactical action in our play?
Thanks for the quote, by the way, fame at last!

Idiots in the extreme who think that rules and laws do not apply to them. If we did have points docked they would be advised to leave the country.

The other three pubs are all in the 2019 Good Beer Guide but not the Coal Hole. It was my first visit. I would though say the beer in there was as good as in any of the others. It was my mate who put that on the agenda as he used to have business meetings in there many many years ago.

Having walked out early at Pompey for the second season running, I decided not to go to away League games unless:

1. it was a new ground,
2. it was down the A420
3. We started winning.

So, I am grateful for your excellent reviews of the games. Keep up the good work, matey. i can only hope that the 3 conditions will be fulfilled soon....

Thanks

Ref 2. Do you want us to be relegated or them promoted?

Why not change 3. to "we stop losing".

Is this the one in The Strand?

Hi Paul, talking to you after the game I thought it might have been a cross but as soon as I saw the goal on Sky I was quite obviously wrong. As you say, you don't hit a cross that hard. For the record, I think he also has more than pace and he's young enough to learn. His movement is pretty good as well and he does get into positions to score (as well as hitting a good ball).

I can’t see a problem with having a player who is fast, athletic, direct and hard working myself, wish we had a few more like him.

Technical but sideways players are fashionable at the moment but we can’t afford good enough ones to affect games and achieve something at this level, i think the last 3 seasons have shown that, we would be better served finding fast, fit, strong, hungry and athletic players and turning them into an organised unit to try and achieve something in the third tier, he fits the bill for me.

Good read as always, the idiot who calls Whyte a paddy should try doing that at Windsor park when he's playing for NI and see how he gets on..

Cant agree on McMahon Paul - he looked slow to meet in movement and thought...

I can't remember him being really exposed or chances created by Charlton due to him.
Individually there is still a bit of criticism about concerning our back 4 (possibly not Nelson) but as a unit they've not let in a goal from open play in 4 league games. They must be doing something right.

Agree with Paul on this.
Charlton apparently made few chances and were more dangerous going down our left.
Not conceding from open play in 4 games after being poor in defence generally this season suggests that the back 5 are doing their jobs.
