Fan's View - Plymouth at home

Great report as usual Paul, I think you're spot on with the mood of the last week and the contrast of last 24 hours.
I would like to think we were very good yesterday but something tells me we were just better than a very poor Plymouth side. Their supporters deserve better.
Your last line, re no bookings for rooms - I can't see anywhere on website of bookings for the matchday restaurant , not even for Shrewsbury and 125 celebrations.

Agree Plymouth were poor and no doubt the wind contributed to some of the wayward passes. Only results from the next 2 or 3 games will tell us whether we are really improving. I still feel that the sum of our parts is not being reflected in the team performance and maybe this is down to the lack of a settled team or just that these players are not capable of working together. If as the “management team” constantly tells us that the spirit is good and that there is a togetherness in the squad then why is this not coming through on the pitch? Yesterday should have given them a confidence boost so another good away point next week is vital.

Although Plymouth were very poor I detect improvement over the last two games. The same back 4. Mous playing just in front of them. Players getting fitter. And players coming back from injury. Only Rob Hall in the treatment room at the moment.

Agree. It wasnt just yesterday as the Southend result was clearly a decent one.
We need a couple more results undoubtedly to show that things have started turning.
The squad certainly looks much stronger with players getting fitter.

I'm still in the doubtful camp on Mackie. At least he did score and showed passion. Have to say some of that passion was realised in some fairly strong worded conversations with the officials. Not very clever if you want their sympathy when fouled!

I had a particularly unpleasant tooth pulling episode on the Saturday morning and a warning that shouting would not be a good idea, thank goodness we did win, I might have been unable to contain my anger with another loss.

Ah well, the delights of the portaloos at Brizzle await!

I think with Mackie you can at least see some pretty big differences between his and Obika's ability to play the lone role, certainly based on yesterday when Mackie was as fit as he has been when with us. Mackie has a football brain and can read play so much better and he also has no issues about putting himself in harm's way. Although I'm not a huge fan of that formation yet, it did look like it could work with him up there. I would also hope Smith can develop into that type of player but I don't think we'll see the full benefits.

I.think that the thing about Mackie is that he had proved his quality over the years and generally all of the supporters of clubs he has been at appreciate his qualities.
He appears to be getting fit. IF he carries on.like yesterday and can stay fit we will move up the table.

I can’t decide if we were particularly good in the second half or Plymouth we’re very, very poor.

As you say Paul how did Argyle manage to get a draw at Oakwell 11 days ago?

I thought he played very well - his 'pestiness' reminded me of Hylton somewhat! But I agree with you in that (like the team performance) the proof of any improvement is going to be maintaining it over the next few games rather than having one good game.

He did pretty well at Southend too, and Sunderland early on in the season for that matter. I'm hoping it was just down to match fitness that at times he looked like a has been.

I agree Paul. I have to admit that I thought it was more than just lack of fitness - I am glad he is proving me wrong! Long may it continue.
