There has to be something going on..

Burton had their ground gifted to them and fleetwood have a rich backer who bankrolls the club
But as Chartle pointed out, there are grants available and sponsorship deals that can help pay for it. Burton day to day is sustainable and Fleetwood do have the office space in the stand as well.

What we need is capital, and a lot of it.

There seems to be some confusion on here regarding the "phoenix club". I think FC United is a load of tosh personally, they still have their true football club in the top flight, they should be supporting/protesting/putting their hearts into that rather than deserting it.

However, the phoenix club that many on here are referring to is the last resort, aka OUFC (heaven forbid) dies and we are left with no option but to start again. Hereford and Darlington are two examples. It's technically, legally, a new club but just a reincarnation of the club we love, except it would be ours.

agree with you re FC United @WuTang ..... good examples of clubs that have survived mismanagement of differing sorts being
AFC Wimbledon & Aldershot , Accrington Stanley being another .... Aldershot's club badge incorporates a Phoenix, and their club mascot is not a bedraggled parrot, its supposed to be a phoenix... one former league club that plummeted a way down the pyramid,(bad management/ ownership) yet draws home crowds of 4500-5000 is Stockport County, even more impressive regarding their home crowds is that they are based in Greater Manchester with an abundance of league clubs closish to where they're located. ..... all of which exist, not all of them necessarily in the EFL currently, but they exist largely down to their respective fan bases ensuring their team is still there to support.

Indeed. The current owners and the other mentioned speculators who are loitering in the background really couldn't care less about the fans. If gates slump to 4,000 and we're relegated that will be an irrelevance to their longer-term plans.

They throw us crumbs, get us excited about some ground move that, if it ever happens, might be ten years away and even then will probably not help the club's revenues, but essentially take us for fools while they plot with Kassam to cash in on development opportunities at Grenoble Road.

I understand fans' anger and frustration. Threads like this are a useful way of blowing off steam, but they will not influence the future direction of the club.

Not unless we do something about it to get media attention, as Charlton do. Could/would oxvox coordinate something?
Is it feasible? Not sure.

That is something that puzzles me. Normally any announcement would be immediately welcomed or questioned. The silence is deafening. Must be a lot more to all of this than is being said. Even so, some sort of comment would be welcome.

This is the same situation when Eales went off the radar, I would imagine Tiger is trying to offload us (Hopefully the rich chap banded about)
Old Tiger feet thought he come in and make a quick success and flog us on for a quick buck.
Unfortunately those feet are running away now as he hit a Kassam brick wall!

All in my opinion mind!

Not really. This thread is not packed with hyperbole, it's full of reasonable concerns about a developing situation where a bunch of wealthy speculators are lining up to make money. Or perhaps Tiger et al are genuinely interested in OUFC, its fans and its future? You decide.

The reality is that there are very few people who would be able and willing to invest tens of millions into a club like Oxford without any likelihood of ever seeing that money again. Even SD stated that it was not financially viable to buy the Kassam and even the WE project was reliant on naming rights, sponsorship and grants to bring the costs down.

A new stadium that can be used for multiply events (football, rugby, ice hockey, music events etc), conference centre, hotel, retail units could bring in enough revenue to mean that we could do the same as DC United paying pennies a year in rent. We may not own the stadium but would be massively better off each year and with the opportunity to earn from all the other concessions from match days.

Football (whether we like it or not) is a business these days and sound investment is more important than passion alone. Tiger appears to be getting together people who can throw a few million at this project without missing it and give us the home we hoped the Kassam would be without the financial burdens that come with it. It might not be perfect but it is maybe the best we can hope for right now.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard more from Tiger this week. There seemed to be signs recently that communication with the fan base and marketing were improving a little bit. With an huge game coming up this week I would’ve expected to see Tiger doing his best to drum up positivity and support for it. Maybe he thinks it would be flogging a dead horse with the general feelings regarding Robinson?

All of this is true and your sentiments laudable, but will we, the OUFC fans, really have a place to call home if this were to happen? More likely any shared stadium would be owned by the financing consortium themselves rather than the club. OUFC might have somewhere much nicer to play than the Kassam, but our future, including the new stadium, would still be in the hands of the investors. And I include Tiger in that group, who I believe will continue to have no interest in OUFC other than the money he can make out of us.

I'm not naive. I realise it is all about money, that a billionaire Oxford fan is unlikely to emerge and that businessmen want to make as much of it as possible, but Kassam will have been replaced by other names who still have no interest in OUFC and its fans. It may indeed be the best we can hope for, but it's very sad.

Unfortunately I can never see us owning our own stadium unless we had a sudden upturn in performances that had us at the top end of the Championship or a few years in the PL to pay for it. Even then, we can see how the likes of Blackpool and Portsmouth got that badly wrong.

There are really only 3 ways any investor can make money from Oxford; promotion and tv money, develop and sell players for a profit or look to get substantial additional revenue from the associated business. The last option (If managed correctly) should also provide the investment to help make the first two options more achievable.

I know this isn't perfect, but neither is our current situation, and there are few other options open to us right now.

there are at least two other ways to make money from OUFC.
4. acquire club, stadium and land, and then separate club from the latter two, and sell off some of the land to yourself and then develop and sell on again for capital, or keep the revenues.
5. sell the club to someone else for more than you've invested.
6. have the club pay for your takeover by for instance mortgaging future transfer fees / instalments or parachute payments.

You are right however I'd say that 4. currently looks very unlikely regarding the Kassam and any land that would likely come with the ground. It would be cheaper to purchase land elsewhere for building.
5. is always a possibility but is more likely to happen with a sustainable or successful club.
6. It would certainly be cheaper to buy, but not sure there will be a way to make money unless the debt still existed when the club was sold.

I know I’m not the brightest bauble on the tree but no matter how much I try, I struggle to get my head round this ‘selling something to yourself’ thing. The more I think about it the bigger my headache gets..

Which is what Kassam did.
