Home Match Day Thread +++ 9/10/18 OUFC v Northampton Town +++

I know KR made changes last night to give players a game but can someone tell me when he fielded the same team in successive games because I can't remember. I think that's half the trouble with our current situation;he keeps changing the team. How are the players supposed to get to know each other when they don't play together every week. If (sorry when we lose) he just puts out another team in the hope that something will happen. KR seems to be a reactive manager rather than a proactive one. He really needs to decide his best team and stick with it.

IF KR (and his cronies/ henchman) DID stick with a starting 11 for consecutive games , novelty though it would be, that would mean he (& his cronies/henchmen) hadnt scapegoated one or more of the players by blaming them and dropping them out of the squad.
Last nights capitulation was sadly typical of the substandard fayre dished up all this season so far......Tiger, your WOW manager is a bunch of a**e!

This is getting beyond a joke.......
We have gone from an “up and coming club” with plenty of players wanting to come and play for us to either progress the team or to resurrect their respective careers and move back up the football pyramid.
We have helped so many players over the last few years and the only football clubs prospering now are the football clubs these players now ply their trade.
Our investment to replace the likes of Roofey, Lundstram, Maguire, Callum, Ledson, Rothwell, Chey Dunlkey, Marvin Johnson and even Jake Wright have been poor over the last 2 seasons and ironically all are playing at higher levels and in some cases flying high.
It is very sad to say that the type of the likes of the above may not be replaced for some considerable time to come.
We were spoilt with good management and now we are paying the price with the inadequate running of the club...
Only one way now, and that’s down........,
That good management started with Ashton and personally I would love to get him back to run the club, get a new manager in and steady the ship. He left when it became apparent that Eales wasn’t prepared to put in the resources to match the ambition of the management team he had put in place.

Nail on the head there re Ashton @Scottie

Defence stood still for their second goal ffs
Not for the first time this season!
KR keeps banging on about not taking our chances but we’re on target to concede over 100 goals!
A team that can’t defend, can’t battle in midfield, can’t create from midfield or down the flanks and is nonexistent upfront is, sadly going down

As the cross is sent in, everyone in the box is marking their man. Nobody has two men to mark. It is five on five.
In the time it takes for the ball to come in and the defensive header to be missed, four out of those five Northampton players have got away from their men and are bearing down on goal.
That is sh*te defending in anyone's book.

Hilarious. Some trying to play offside running to the 18 yard line, some just hanging about.

If those attempts we had in the video were our best, that pretty much sums up our season.

I just long for a shot that’s in the box and not from 20+ yards out

If we are pinning our hopes on Carruthers, then I hope he is better than the player I saw in the pre season game at MK.
Thankfully it was pre-season game but I'm not relying on him to make us defend better...

Should we not be motivated though to just win a bloody game though?

Agree about the injury positives though. Need a refresh.
Let me put it this way. Their players want to impress the manager, so will more likely treat it as a league game, rather than a training match. With Eastwood and Carruthers coming back, plus others getting a game, perhaps the mindset is getting fit and not getting injured, rather than giving an extra 5%.

How much would the club be dug out by fans if Nelson got injured in a pointless reserve fixture?

I saw a comment last night that we have a lot of long shots, so while they are chances, they aren't much of a threat. What we don't do is create many chances in the box. We've managed to regress in that regard from the Clotet reign

On the plus side, good battling from Baptiste and through ball from Long for the first goal. Not much else to be positive about from those highlights sadly..

We have no one to play in behind defences or attack crosses, Obika has many weaknesses but his biggest is that he is no threat in/around the box, Smith and Mackie are similar. To start a season without a forward who can run in behind or a forward who can attack crosses is a bizarre, you wonder where Robinson thought the goals were going to come from.

The closer you are and more central = higher chance of scoring. Zone 1 = 59% of scoring.

Those shots from outside the box - zones 6/7/9 carry between 4-6% chance of resulting in a goal.

Expecting Holmes/Henry etc to constantly score from this distance is madness

Tbh I don’t think Carruthers is ready He was so laboured last night and I know he needs game time but he did sod all last night and Browne was no more than a cameo I think we’re are looking at another 2/3 weeks before we will see glimpses of what they’re capable of doing.

Totally agree.

Agree. When Robinson was first appointed, he made a point of saying he plays wingers to get crossed into the box and frankly, we really don't do that a whole lot. From the games I've been too, I don't recall us creating much of anything in the middle of the box from open play. Is black hole of chances created
