According to todays om(page 31...sorry cant do a cut n paste link) kr is resting players for tonights cup game. He says he is starting a youngster(an acadamy graduate) and alludes local bicester lad sam long will be involved.. first thought was why is he not playing the strongest available team? Thinking about it when kr n his assistants have played what they percieve to be the strongest team the results so far havent been up to much....yet hes made changes in cup (and shaun harvey trophy) games which have produced positive-ish results.. maybe if he rested a few more players for league games, replacing them with u23s n youngsters perhaps we wouldn't be sat 2nd from bottom in league1 ?.....top flight clubs with mahoosive squads can afford to rest players in cup games(early rounds), question then being should KR n co be replicating the practice with a tiny squad of old crocks?......we'll find out if he,kr, is a tactical genius or not come 7.45pm tonight

In any feasible permutation we would lose this (at best) about, what, 95 times out of a 100?
Would picking Sam Long lengthen those odds significantly?
Would a fresh(ish) team on the weekend having a better chance of winning be more preferable?
As long as we don't embarrass ourselves I'm OK with whatever KR picks.

There is a full house and we have to surely take it seriously?
In the scheme of things the league is more important but it is a big game for a cup game.

if I was a player who has been playing regularly, I would be pretty pissed off if I wasn’t selected for this game.

With the greatest respect not one player in our squad this season has done enough to "earn a reward" with a place in the team tonight.

This is not the time to punish and demotivate.

We all need a lift , including the players. Pissing them off will not help and is not good player management in my opinion.

Just posted this in the match day thread....

The quote from KR is: “I’m going to start a youngster, one of our academy graduates. There’s a good chance the likes of Longy (Sam Long) could be involved.”

Now unless he means Long and/or Baptiste as the "youngster", then I'm not sure who he means as Stevens, Heap, hopkins, James, Spasov and BRadbury all played in the U23s last night and Lopes & Dai are meant to be injured!! Only other possibles that didnt play last night are Napa and Little, who are out on loan, or striker Taverner, who scored twice in the previous U23 game, but is by no means a regular in that side. Or is it the night that Manny Agboola makes a name for himself?

If any players feel ‘pissed off’ by not being selected tonight, let us hope they find a new club soon. Any player selected for the game ought to take a good look at themselves and try and put in a performance which provokes Robinson to selecting them for further games, adding some depth to our thin squad. I would include the Manager himself in this, it is about time he raised his game. Those supporters who have tracked up and down the Country are overdue a decent performance along the lines of the visit to Sunderland.

I wouldn't want to punish or demotivate but if they don't know that Wimbledon on Saturday is the massive game this week in our season then they are deluded.

I will bet my apology in now; it was the Fleetwood game that Eastwood had to withdraw from. He, of course, played Barnsley by himself the previous week.
In my defence, I am having a couple of beers looking out across the straits to Albania. Good luck tonight, boys, particularly to Sam if he gets a game!

I would be a little surprised if he rested players.
Holmes Baptiste or Whyte are most likely (and Hanson hadn't played much before Saturday).
I wouldn't be amazed if Brannagan Hanson and Baptiste started in midfield

So we name six substitutes on Saturday and now magically we have enough players to rotate our side against the champions of England?

Forget the league, play your strongest XI infront of a packed house, and try your damnedest to win it.

Not sure I totally understand your logic and maybe I have misinterpreted what you have said?

But surely any player wants to “play” and try to put things right and prove they can make an impact.

Okay, so this is Man City and obviously adds another dimension because what player wouldn’t want to go up against such a team?

I think I would be more concerned if a player wasn’t pissed off to be left out. A bit like being happy to be subbed.. it makes no sense.

From certain things I’ve heard Robinson has pissed off quite a few of the players already and is close to “losing” them (whatever that means)

If there is anyone who’s not happy at the moment, leaving them out of a game like this in place of someone who has barely even set foot on a pitch this season will finish the job.

Robinson needs to stop trying to be clever with these stupid games of not filling the bench or rotating players for a big game and concentrate on getting performances and results.

It’s like he thinks he can trick everyone into thinking he’s a good manager with all this rubbish, the only way to do that is by getting results....maybe not tonight but betting a performance would be a start.
