Transfer targets?

I apologise kids, but KR is full of bull****.

He's been given a top 10 budget and the opportunity to sign his players, and thus far he's failed to put together a balanced team.

How he 'knows' Maynard will score loads of goals is beyond me...0 in 18 games for Aberdeen and he hasn't been prolific for the last 8 injury-prone years. That would be exactly the kind of signing we don't need - another 'big time' player, over 30, unfit and out of form. I am seriously starting to question KRs judgement.

Tiger is right; and there's little point providing more resources to a manager who has us sitting in the relegation places.

Sam Smith reminds me a bit of Agon Mehmeti at the moment - runs around a lot, and *looks like* a footballer, but hasn't really done anything. I'm sure I'll be proved wrong soon!

As things stand at the moment I’ll be pleasantly surprised if any of the three end the season in double figures unfortunately. The worrying thing is that Robinson must be of the same opinion or else he wouldn’t be trying to persuade his boss into letting him bring in another one.

I'm beginning to think that's debateable.

I'm not sure how Robinson can complain. He plays 1 up front and we have 3 strikers competing for that position. Robinson signed 2 of the 3.

They may not have been first choice and there are clear questions about the budget, but he has signed a lot of these players that aren't YET performing.
Not sure Mackie was brought in as a striker tho? So only two really.

Fair enough, I’m no expert. But Smith has really done very little so far
Sorry, bored and fed up of all the negativity tbh. Just looking into Smith a bit deeper as don’t think he’s had enough time or enough consistency in being played.
It looks like he’s only played 479 minutes (5 games +29mins) and scored 1 goal.
And only 4 starts (pos full apps) but also you could take into consideration our opponents in these games and how poorly the rest of the team played in those matches.
Think I’d rather he’d started the season as first choice and was played every game even if he didn’t score just for consistency sake.

Yes, agree, but you could say the same about Mehmdti, he was never really fit and hardly played. Hopefully Smith will come good

Stunning isn't it. If Mackie is out, it will be very interesting over the next week or so to see if Tiger will support KR - I would imagine a lot is riding on Saturday's game.

Im ready to get hammered here, but offensively we aren't too bad. Yes, I know we have a failure to finish (to a degree, in the striker department), however its defensively where we have bigger issues. Without wanting to go OTT, some numbers that I play around with:

Screen Shot 2018-09-18 at 11.24.16.png

- TSR - total shot ratio - essentially how many offensive shots you take compared to opposition shots. Barnsley are taking 71% of shots within their games. We sit just above 50%.

xG - expected goals - quality of chances created - this is where we have the problem. Whilst we are giving up a similar number of shots per match to that which we create, our opposition create better quality.

Conversion - most teams, from what i can tell operate around 25-30% conversion for shots on target...we currently sit on 21%..obviously there is some improvement to be made here.

Overall, based on shot data we should probably be closer to mid table. If we can take a few more chances (not all on the striker) and stop giving up such decent chances we should see a change in fortune.

As an aside...Barnsley are by far the best team in the league, Sunderland aren't that great (so far), Peterborough and Walsall are running hot (50/46% conversion!!), Southend should be higher up the table (note this is after 8 games so cant draw any hard conclusions but can give us something to keep an eye on)
