Well pre season has gone well for Beeks, he looks fitter and sharper, will he be the answer when the league campaign starts well I hope he chips in with a few goals.

Has he started all or most pre season games? if he has what's changed from the sick note he was last season, play one game then miss two or more, this must be the most consistent run of games he's played for us.

I think the management have done a good job of turning him in to a more capable performer.

Hopefully you're right.

Certainly in the second half of the season it appeared that he was being asked to play when he was clearly carrying an injury, well that’s how it looked to me at the time.

Clotet’s lax attitude to fitness probably didn’t help particular players either, Obika may well have been one of those.

He’s a better player than Wes Thomas in the lone role upfront but not as mobile as Thomas when running the channels.

Obviously we need another striker, (or two) to rotate the front players. Hopefully the boo boys will get off his back and the support the guy.

Hopefully the boo boys will shut up generally. Whether it’s against the annual scapegoat or just those struggling for form, confidence or fitness, those ‘fans’ can do one frankly.

Boo the opposition, boo the ref, boo the birdshit on the seats if it pleases you.

Just back the team for 90 minutes a week - that’s all we ask!

The ‘boo boys’? I’ve nevwr heard him booed.

But he will get plenty of praise, rightfully, when he scores against league opposition.

All he has managed so far is to turn up fit and improve his fitness and score goals against sub-standard opposition (bar Palace).

That’s about the minimum to expect of a league 1 striker

If he’s genuinely turned a corner it will be brilliant for all concerned

So everything he could do then eh? What else was it you were after during pre-season Tony Hawk?

Nothing
He will be judged in the league. Not against oxford city or whoever.
If he has 4 in the first 8 proper games of the season then he is on the road to being a consistent performer

I don’t boo him, We just need better.
Because, if we go into this season with just him, we will not get enough goals we need to seriously contend for promotion.

He has been subjected to cat-calls, booing, mocking and darn right abuse about being an ex-Swindon player. He has never appeared to react.

The sad thing is, he wasn't at all bad last season. He was played on his own, with no support from midfield, rotated every other week with Thomas, had no time to settle.

At Doncaster he was integral in the move that allowed Henry to score, yet he was heckled all day and in fact, heckled during that passage of play.

Unfortunately, we have a section of support who don't understand what the roles are of the players or why they take up positions they do. Being an ex Swindon player, seems to also blind a few people.

He's actually vastly under-rated. He is a quality footballer.

I've heard him get dogs abuse. 'f**k off scummer'. 'f**k off back to Swindon' etc.

Totally uncalled for.

Absolutely. Shouting abuse like that neither helps the player or the team one iota.

The number 9 lone striker role is quite different to the traditional centre forward of say 20/30+ years ago. Yes Obika will be expected to score his fair share of goals but players like Henry and Hall are much more likely to end up being the seasons top scorer.

If Obika’s in the team claiming plenty of assists but is not scoring a goal in every other game, that’s ok as long as we’re winning and others are scoring.

Look at Ryan Taylor for Plymouth last season, hardly a goal machine but no coincidence that Argyle’s great run came off the rails when he got injured.

Just glad he's actually got fast players to help him out. Remember under Clotet we had everyone back for corners. Now at least Obika can flick on behind him into space for the faster wingers. Before he was in the opposing half all alone, expected to chase down endless long balls with no hope of supporting runs.

I have never shouted abuse at Obika. I will admit to moaning about his play and form last season - and anyone who thinks he was good enough last time out is seriously deluded. I won't reiterate his past shortcomings - but I will add to the general chorus hoping that he can keep up his pre-season form once the serious stuff starts.

Another player who was underated in his time here, he was a slow burner at the start of both seasons in 2015/16 & 2016/17 but managed to get into good form when he had a good run of games in the team & was a key man on helping Roofe do his stuff whilst he did a lot of the dirty work which kept Hylton out of the team at the time & was possible on his way out of the club that January until RT had the injury which finished his season

Nobody can disagree with this?

He has looked fitter and more agile in the friendlies I have seen. But he will be judged by his league form. Even if we get in a top striker at this level, I would start with Obika as he has earned it. But he needs to keep performing against the best League 1 defenders.

Well I am not seriously deluded.

He was asked to play in a role, with no support or a midfield that was so far attached from him it was untrue. Let alone the plethora of crosses we were unable to create. I assume simply, people who 'moan' about him, simply look at his goal ratio - hence the delirious excitment that's now afforded to him because he is on.......fire.

If Beeks carries his prolific pre season form into the forthcoming season, its a given he'll (err) Fly to the front of the starting 11 (err) pecking order:sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:
