Matches 2022-23 Fixtures

Definitely good time to play Derby. And the August fixtures look very kind.

I’d say them opening 8 games look incredibly favourable. 20 points from them would be a nice haul, and entirely possible! Just need some fresh legs now, to balance the squad. If KR can build a balanced squad that is, because he’s not managed it yet since being here.

After 10 league games we were 8th with 15 points (4W, 3D, 3L)

Having played 6 games at home and 4 away.
Having played 8 teams that finished in the bottom half and only 2 from the top half (only 1 of which was a top 8 side).
And even then we were 'only' 8th (Wednesday level on points behind us with a game in hand, so effectively 9th), already 4 points off automatics, and as I said yesterday - on course for just 69 points.

We actually improved on that so-called good start in terms of position and points. So if that was a good start, the rest of the season must have been even better, which is odd because we still only finished 8th.

Of course, it wasn't a disaster by any stretch but it is completely misleading to suggest that we started last season well. We dropped a lot of points in the first two months, particularly away from home.

This season looks like a relatively similar start to last season and quite frankly 15 points from the first 10 games would not be a good return.

I'd call it a middling start but nowhere near as bad as the starts to the previous 3 seasons.

Really, the last 2 months sunk the season.

What?
So when we lost at Wembley we were a game from going up.
Not sure how balanced squad had anything to do with it.
Brentford had 2 recognised full backs last season.
Man City have been forced to play Fernadinho at CB
Last season we were short of players in certain positions ( had Seddon worked out we may have got away with that one)

It depends on how you describe start of the season.
The fact that we had an excellent first 5 games suggests to me that there was no particular problem with the team at the start of the season. We didn't takes ages to 'gel'
Sure the next 5 were not as good, but that was almost after the players were match fit

I wouldn’t class that away game at Cambridge as excellent. We should of been out of sight at least 3-0. We chucked away 2 points there, and missed some sitters, before Sykes gave away a stupid penalty. Even after the penalty we should of done better in front of goal. We were so wasteful in front of goal last season.

I wonder if (I haven't seen anything announced by the sky ) our game with Wrderby will be an early kick off on that weekend 30th July

Personally, I'm very disappointed that Oxford are away on 30th July, as this will probably be the only ever EFL fixture list to start in July.

I 'collect' dates on which I've seen Oxford play at home, and was very pleased with the Coventry friendly on 16th July, as I've never seen them at home on that date (and presumably no-one else has!)

Some interesting last day fixtures,

Barnsley v Peterborough United
Portsmouth V Wycombe Wanderers
Sheffield Wednesday V Derby County

Accrington at home for us will be a tricky one, but hopefully we will have the Championship done and dusted by then...

Certainly no one will realise they have 🙂
