Really surprised to see people saying Gorrin leaving wouldn't be that bad. One of the main factors in us missing the playoffs by leaving the defence exposed, or the view that Robbo would replace with a "better" player. Like he did in January of course.

Players like Gorrin are VERY hard to come by. Hence the interest. It would be a shitty start to summer.

Yes, and we played some of our best football with 3 at the back as it allowed Baldock and Taylor to play upfront together. Two intelligent forwards sharing the goals.

4, 3, 3 doesn't suit the Taylor, Baldock strike partnership.

352 - Stevens, McNally Moore ____, ____ ____ Brannagan ____, Browne, Taylor Baldock

4 marquee signings. LCB, RWB, LWB & box to box CM.

Then add bits of quality with signings after that scattered across the squad.

Better the midfield devil you don't know

To go up I think that we need better than Gorrin ( who would be a squad player) .
And that was before him having a pretty serious injury
Before injury he made us a promotion challenger. Our best season under KR was the one curtailed by covid and he played in most games at the base of midfield. We were challenging for autos. The following seasons the better teams have walked straight through the middle of us when he hasn’t played. Will be a shame if he goes and if so his replacement should be right at the very top of the shopping list IMO.

When allowed to play Gorrin was OK but when teams pushed high he became a bit of a liability getting caught in possession which usually led to a booking,if we have promotion ambitions surely better players needed.

Through absolutely no fault of his own, Gorrin has improved his stock massively by being out injured most of the season - and his reputation seemed to get better as the season went on in his absence (helped by the fact that he wasn't replaced and we had a problem in that area).

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Was he as good as we collectively remember?

Yes.

I’ll take you back to the biggest game in recent history: the playoff final at Wembley.

Gorrin was so poor and so ill disciplined that he was subbed at HT for Kelly. He was a liability and a sending-off waiting to happen. We improved hugely when he wasn’t on the pitch. You are a fierce critic of us bottling games, well AG bottled that game hugely.

His position is vital, I agree with you, but he isn’t the man to get us where we all want to be.

It's a fair point he was utterly horrific and stood out in a team of absolute bottlers.

I'm not suggesting he is a week in week out player who needs to play regardless but he is a critical part of a squad who have a few options to keep teams at bay.

He’s certainly better in that crucial role than anyone else at the club.

Over to you, Karl.

I do really enjoy it thanks for asking but equally do have ambition, if your happy to stand still then fine, that’s up to you, maybe support Swindon
Ridiculous comment

The level of expectation on this forum sometimes is ridiculous.

I'd say the last three seasons we have played our most attractive football at the Kassam stadium with fairly good results and batted way above our average on budget when you look at the big hitters in the division.

Maybe the people who think we should completely overhaul our squad because we've apparently underachieved should go and support Man City or Newcastle??

If you think that making the play offs two seasons in a row then improving our points total next season is 'standing still' then you're seriously seriously deluded

Depends on how he recovers from his injury as to how much of a loss this is, but its now becoming more apparent that it will be big rebuild this summer with a load of new players in.

With Gorrin going I’d hope we will target 2 different types of holding midfielders.

One who is similar to Gorrin where he puts himself about and makes tackles, aggressive etc. Hopefully 6ft+ & physical.

One who’s ball playing and likes doing the job of sitting as a holder. Conor Coventry really stood out doing that job for MK Dons as their pivot.

Dan Barlaser did as well for Rotherham all season (and yes, he stood out against us by pinging one into his own net - but for most of the season, the stats hold him up to be one of the best players in the division). But he will undoubtedly be playing in the Championship next year.

If it's true, I'm sad to see ARG go, because I loved both his level of commitment and his defensive qualities - he really did read the game defensively at a level above anyone else we had in midfield last season.

But he's definitely not irreplaceable. KR just needs to actually replace him this time, unlike in January! And bring in some cover for that replacement so we're not relying entirely on one DM staying fit.

Agreed, definitely not standing still.

Playoff final > playoff semi final > missed playoffs...
I'd assume that's a joke rather than serious?? 😂

League 1 gets stronger year on year and the fact we are keeping ourselves in the mix every season is progressive in my opinion.

People who are moaning about our progress now clearly weren't at Histon 12/13 years ago on a Thursday night watching us lose to a bunch of part timers.
