If we are so in need of players to strengthen the squad then why haven't we 'done the deals' already ? !!
I know we are only just into the transfer period but it hasn't come as a sudden surprise/shock to all football clubs and we should assume we know who we want and that we have been preparing the ground with feelers already made to clubs involved . If not - why not
what possible disadvantage could there be to jump in with both boots immediately, clubs will either agree to or reject the offers; it's not as though we will be trying to get their best players, we will unfortunately be offered the 'not made in in this division but may well do in yours' level.
Additionally we are still down in numbers because of injuries so if the hole is there it needs fixing NOW,not after losing possible points for the rest of the month.

Are you Barry in disguise?

Much as I’d love you to be heading up our recruitment team, I’d suggest the situation is rather more nuanced than you are suggesting. Much like house buying, deals can only be completed once the chain is complete.

Truth of the matter is whether Eales was bullshitting in the OM today young and prospective players we’ll see

Simple answer really, because we have eales as chairman.

And yet Portsmouth have brought in two already, two lads from Wolves. They knew exactly where they needed players for and the ground work was already done to bring them straight in, so why haven't we?

What was eale's latest soundbyte? That was it, three to four coming in, along the lines of previous youth/prospects signings.

So that will be Ahmet Ataýew, from Turkmenistan signed on a 4 year deal, signed 2 mins before the window closes. He isn't match fit, never played in England before, but is a mate of clothead's, grocers brother. Oh and was signed for 4 pearly buttons.

It's infantile to refer to our club manager as clothead. He probably spends every waking moment thinking about our club and how to improve the team and its performance. It's very disrespectful.

Yep. A manager who has us slightly ahead of Mapp’s corresponding position in his one season in League One, and despite all of the upheavals over the Summer.

Ah well, at least it wasn’t a mildly xenophobic barb on this occasion.

At 5pm today bazzer lost his title, it’s like Joshua v Klitschko, the young pretender took out the veteran who just couldn’t pull the trigger anymore.

RIP (retire in peace) bazzer, while it lasted you were one of the greats mate, but time waits for no man. The king is dead, long live the king.

Note. Darts would of been another acceptable analogy, and a bit more recent but I went for the more dramatic and violent one.

Yay, we have got not just 1 new forum idiot but 2 in the form of nerps and mellow yellow!

I can't wait to read about all their knowledge of how easy and straight forward every football transfer is.

Don't post much on here these days, and it's not because of thicko's like DenisSmithsWig calling people idiots. I'm afraid you will have to wait a while for my next post Wiggie mate, it will take time to change down from my planned text to words you might be able to comprehend.
Holdsteady, you were nearly in the firing line but your comments were well thought out, although this 'young pretender' title has come as a welcome compliment as I am undoubtedly older than bazzer and yourself and have been on and off most oxford forums since computers were created !!!!!
Finally I have yet to see any comments stating why the much talked-about transfers should not be made immediately, - what do you think Wiggie? any not necessarily intelligent ideas ?

I agree with your comments about personal insults! However, I'd like to give my opinion re immediate transfers or loans. Clubs selling in this window will wait to see if a better offer comes in. Players will wait til see if a better loan offer comes in. In either deal clubs or players and the thieving agents will look for the best deal. A buying club will always get the best deal later in the window as the options for the selling club, player and thieving agent diminish unfortunately.

Thanks Eraser, yours is the reason most posters come on here, sensible replies and discussion. We don't have to agree about everything or anything !
My point is the deals should be done or ditched, the sums being looked-for cannot vary much so it would be more advantageous to lose a few quid extra rather than 6 or 7 points during the time we hold back for a 'slightly' better deal. No amounts haggled for would equate to points gained or lost, they could be the difference in missing out of the play-offs or , hate to even think it, not missing out on relegation !!

No problem - but if we did want Maguire back for example there's no way Bury will accept the first offer - Club, Player and thieving agent will make it known an offer is there and see if something better lands on the table! That's modern football business

You can do deals before transfer windows open but I don't think Pep was bothered until DE and the fans stuck it to him after the record 7-0 defeat! Maybe that was the MA 5-1 defeat at Cambridge moment!??

Ok maybe I was a bit harsh so I do apologise Nero’s for the personal insult.

It does get tiresome though when year after year people still expect incoming transfers straight away. The football world doesn’t work like that and players, clubs and agents will drag deals out to get every last penny they can.

Also a player that is a target for the club might not be available until the other club has got in a replacement of their own.

It’s really not as simple as the club wanting a player and just getting him.
