So one of our targets, who we were close to signing, refused to do a running test! Therefore the move has fallen through.

Wonder who it was?

We may never know?

I can’t decide if I agree or not with KR? Surely you can improve a players fitness and running capacity in pre season and training? Some players have had several weeks off so may not be as fit as they were or should be. For me maybe it demonstrates a bad attitude, but without knowing all the fa yes it’s speculation. If it’s not common practice across the board I can see it from both parties!

If that is the attitude of one of our "targets" then that is cause for concern. Not just for that player but also, for the quality of the targets.

Was it Kluivert in a player-coach role?

God u and Sean are miserable sods [emoji23]

It says nothing about the quality of the targets, nor that it’s an excuse that we’re not signing anyone.

It says exactly what we’ve seen from kr already, he wants fit players that can run for 90 mins, and he doesn’t want any im bigger than the club attitudes.

I’d happily take another lego, who will run his a**e off in a fitness test over a dave kitson, who thinks he’s to good to have to

Seriously?
Are you suggesting that attitude and stamina can be simply identified from watching a handful of games?
My guess is that we will have a group of players next season who will 'go through the wall' for KR.
Maybe slightly better than some of the players recruited last season in that respect?

I wonder what time / distance KR wants players to be able to run?

I’m on fence. I mean a big unit centre half isn’t going to run a 5k at the same pace as a slight pacy winger. Or even a unit of a centre forward.
Some players hate running but still give you 100% during a match.

Even so I’ve seen enough from KR to know we should trust his judgment.

Just hope this isn’t the start of excuses. Amazing to think that when we’re waiting to hear a crumb of news about signing players, it turns out to be about a player that refuses to run and the deals off!
You mean make up a bullshit story, about a player who possibly turned us down and put it out in the media. Yes, I'm sure that would do our reputation among players and agents no harm at all! There is absolutely no reason to not believe KR on this one. I have to wonder why you are suspicious of his comments?

These days players are constantly tracked by various technology platforms such as Opta - as witnessed as the explosion of Performance Analysts working at football clubs. I would have thought all key performance attributes would be viewable on a database during the target identification phase?

Fairplay to KR for sticking to his guns mind. If he asks a potential recruit to jump, the answer should be "how high, gaffer?" otherwise the contract should be ripped up immediately. And to think under Ol' Chippy we didn't even bother with medicals...
