Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

Kevin Ellison has played for Newport this season. He debuted in 1996 but I don't think ever played at the Manor.
Doesn't look like he did, no. Bit of a trickier one to confirm, as by the time we left he had already played for 5 different clubs. However, the first 4 were semi-pro teams, and he only made one appearance at Leicester, and that was away at Old Trafford. By the time he moved on to Stockport, we had already left the Manor Ground.

I remember Defoe tearing (think it was Andy Linnigan) apart at the Manor when he was on loan to Bournemouth from West Ham in 2000.

Would love to have him but think Sunderland will be his likely destination.

Not sure how much can be read into these comments but Ipswich are apparently denying any interest and the Sunderland manager is saying they’re a long way off getting a workable deal sorted. Who knows, maybe we are in with a shout..? I’m not convinced he’s worth breaking the bank for by any means but he’d probably get a few extra bums on seats if he rocked up here. And the experience he would bring off the field, in terms of a calming influence as the season approaches the sharp end and also for the likes of Slavi Spasov, Gatlin O’Donkor and Adam Smith would be invaluable. How many people have pointed out the need for a striker/finishing coach? Not sure I could think of a better candidate except maybe Johnny Aldridge!

Incidentally doesn’t Defoe have a record of always scoring on his debut for every club he’s played for...?

I hope we don't go for him I hope we do our usual go for a loan player that we might take on in the summer and sell for millions

Not convinced we should be going for Defoe. Sounds like a very expensive gamble for someone who has barely played this season. Happy to be proven wrong when he smashes 10 in and sends us up though…

I don’t know... the more I think about it, replacing Cooper and Winnall with Browne and Defoe would certainly get a few rival managers choking on their morning coffee!

I don't think they would be worried we need a taller stronger midfield you have to win the battle to win the war

Defoe was on Talksport about how he loves the game because of the fans and the atmosphere that's what gets him going. I think he would rather go to a stadium with 4 stands and way more fans.

Plus they love him up there.

Any news on anyone we may have a chance in getting through the door?
