The Cabinet is RECOMMENDED to enter into negotiations as requested by Oxford United Football Club (OUFC) and with Oxfordshire County Council’s current tenants to enable the use of Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) owned land for the development of a new football stadium, subject to planning permission.

That is all they had to decide.

Useless jobsworths.

How many councillors were in the meeting though?
But would have thought all the councillors who have attended the Grenoble road stadium when our rich new board were there and for them to be talking and shaking their hands, you would think that they if they didn’t attend today would have spoken to their colleagues. I hew it wouldn’t be straight forward as one ore two have thought but this was the basic of the opening statement for a new ground. If there weren’t going to be many issues then you would have thought this would have passed the first stage with ease, is there a major issue that hasn’t been mentioned? Was there an issue which is a problem…..yes John flaming Hill, surely one person could not have swayed the minds of a few councillors. Or was this all BS with councillors and there handshakes?

I would not be surprised at all if the club were already aware that this would be deferred. The fact that one of the councillors already had a draft indicates to me this was already discussed. I sincerely doubt that this won't get through this stage, it is the planning side that will ultimately be the coin toss.

The fact you've got idiots like John Hill actually able to spout absolute bullsh*t in an actual county meeting and perhaps have some sway on things is unbelievable. Can we please god get some actual OUFC representation on this matter in the next meeting.

I'm told that the club aren't allowed to speak at the meeting yet Mr Hill who is an Associate Member of CDWA is........I know not why.

Yeah, you wonder how much of this is just to show the residents that they've actually gone through an official process...

John Hill = Les Wells

(In all seriousness though, whilst his comments were fundamentally wrong, off topic and irrelevant to what should have been discussed, no abuse should be sent his way. It paints OUFC and all connected in a bad light.)

This is it for me. A clear lack of research and understanding from everyone there into what the proposal was entirely, and all they actually discussed was complete hypotheticals that goes way beyond what the meeting was actually for.

Why some random person, John Hill, who still nobody seems to know who he is, was allowed to spout untruths and negativity when no representative from OUFC was involved in the discussion is beyond me. If McWilliams was there he'd have shot down half that guys statement with three words. Erick f*****g Thohir.
Would have thought at least one councillor would have replied as to the wealth of our owners

The running order of the agenda item was screwed by technology. The first two speakers weren’t able to speak so John Hill was put on first. He seemed to set the tone from that point on and hesitation and doubts took over.

It seems the councillor we really need to get on side is Ian Middleton, the Green councillor for South Kidlington. He mentioned in the meeting he was in the unique position of being on all four councils that will approve this, so he is going to have a major say. Can the club use its database to email any fans who are residents of South Kid to lobby this councillor? He stated he was currently neutral.

Whilst initially disappointed, in hindsight it's not all that suprising. I've a little experience of committees and panels and the one thing they hate doing is making short snappy decisions. It makes them accountable. The council okaying this today leaves them open to criticism of rushing into it, especially from any dissenters or nimbys, kicking it down the road gives them a chance to read the proposal that I imagine most didn't actually read and get a feel for public opinion. This way, we have more time to show OCC what the community really thinks of this deal. Sign the petition, make your voices heard etc. Think of it as an extra month for the club and community to really make an undeniably popular case for it.

@OUSP Secretary can you confirm, that the club will have staff members/volunteers with ipad's at Saturday's 10,000 plus crowd, canvassing for signatures on the petition?

It would be absolute folly behavior to overlook Saturday's potential to get support for the new complex.
This is a great idea, would be criminal not to try and use this as an advantage, even with away fans also if possible

We, as fans, need to rally together now... this could be make or break for us as I don't think our owners are going to hang around with no prospect of development. The move needs to happen for the future sustainability of Oxford United.

This is what really worries me too
I have asked Scotch Egg and Colin B months ago at the time of Bakries interview what would happen if we did not get approval, would the backers hang around?
They said everything was going according to plan but didn’t actually answer the question.

I don't think a representative of the club had to be there, council cabinets should be free to discuss things in meetings without the concerned parties present otherwise they'd never get anything done. We were the 11th item on the agenda after all.

I think the bigger question is who this John Hill bloke is if they're not a member of the cabinet, and why they were allowed to make a wholly untrue statement with the club being offered no right of reply.

Ive written to my County Councillor, who is a Headington lad himself

asking how Mr Hill was invited to speak (against) yet no invitation was extended to OUFC

I also asked why the majority of county councillors were totally unprepared (as in had no grasp whatsoever of seemingly any FACTS) regarding an item they were supposed to be voting on. Hence the item was deferred. I also asked if he could remind his fellow County Councillors that many Oxford United supporters, as well as friends and family of them, are constituents in the Council seats they currently hold/ represent.
