General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

This has got me thinking again about the ice rink plans. Sorry if it has already been discussed on here. But if a new ice rink is being built, presumably that means the Oxpens site will be redeveloped. Does that affect the jigsaw puzzle in any way?
I think somebody else mentioned it would free up space for housing in Oxford. As a result, they wouldn't need to use Cherwell land like before which could make Cherwell CC happier about the stadium plans.

This was me. Naturally this all depends if the City & Cherwell councils make that type of agreement..

A guess at the proposed structure and mechanics of the thing then, based on this and the council recommendation:

  • the club will be a separate company which will have (what looks like) a 250 yr lease to the ground at fixed terms, most like low/peppercorn rent.
  • if the club is sold the lease to the ground goes with it (this is implicit and didn't need to be stated in the other docs)
  • If the club goes bust, the owners of the 'property company' (currently Thohir, Bakrie, Gieske(sp?) etc) seem to have to lease the ground only to a professional football club under terms that will guarantee other sports can be played there when football isn't.
  • Somehow legal protections will prevent the owners of the club from selling the ground (lease) without selling the club.
Which seems fine to me, once it's signed sealed and delivered. Currently it's a statement of intention. Not saying I don't believe they'll not do all of the above.

Tories statement released.
Lib Dems have said they support it and will also be releasing a statement.
Green Party haven’t rejected it, they said they want more details.
Labour - no statement as of yet.

With those numbers the proposal will go through. Conservative group = 21 Lib-Dem = 21 Green = 3 Labour = 16 others = 2

I have signed the petition and also email my local councilor Duncan Enright (Labour Witney east) asking him to support the proposal. I believe that he is on the Council Cabinet who will be discussing the proposal next week.

Question: With the new stadium at Strafield Brake, Would Oxford City be asked to move in and ground share with us?.
