Shopping for pints and grub

I think we all accept that the city centre will again be a pre and post match destination if we move to Stratfield Brake.

Is it unreasonable to assume increased footfall will have an impact on businesses?
It won't apart from those that to Oxford train station from Oxford, doubt whether many will alight at Oxford for a few pints and risk missing the next train to get them to Sytratfield break on time to get the start of the match. it will either be North Oxford or Kidlington, Plus Oxford is a crap shopping destination.

Id hope that a footpath from Stratfield Break to Yarnton, including a footbridge over the canal, is in the infrastructure of the plans ...... thus making it a shortish walk from the pub on the Woodstock road, Yarnton ( next to a roundabout - is it the Turnpike? ) to the new stadium complex ...... as the crow flies that pub is closer to the 'new' stadium than the 'bird is to the breeze block.... however , there doesn't appear to be a footpath of any sort currently ?
yes the Turn Pike Jerome frequents that one as well.:)

ITV Meridian news want fans to have their view now. Still nothing official from the club. 🙄

Of course it will help businesses in oxford. I will probably have to start getting the train as will many others and when I get to oxford I wil most likely get off and have a beer and something to eat some weeks. Also on the way home after a good result you can jump off the train have a pint. Just cos you won’t do something doesn’t mean many others will.

I hate to put a dampener on this but how sure are you that this will get the green light?
It’s great that we have owners who want to push the club forward but OCC and Cherwell have said before there is no chance of us getting a stadium built there so what has changed and what is the time frame we are looking at?
The people heading up our club are not fly-by-night chancers or Charlie chatting to a farmer in a pub! These are big players who bring in experts to make these projects happen.

We have already seen the document from OCC asking for local support and representatives of all local authorities have been engaged with over several months. There's no guarantees, local objections are almost expected in any project like this, but getting key players behind your bid makes success significantly better.

As for what has changed since previous enquiries? A few things. Firstly housing is high on the agenda, and leaving the Kassam provides a perfect brown site to throw housing up. Secondly, bringing retail and leisure outside the city limits helps with the green targets that Oxford has committed to. And finally, and really importantly, money! Charlie and SD were talking about a community stadium part funded by local authorities with other funding coming from a proposed buying then selling of the Kassam, naming rights and sponsorship deals etc. That gamble with finances make the powers that be very nervous. No one wants a part built stadium again, dragging on for years. These guys take all that worry away by not only funding the entire project but willing to support community usage etc. It's almost impossible to lose whilst also being to support the local football team, create jobs and redevelop an area that has little else there.

So, in answer to your question, I'm exceptionally confident that this will get the green light.

I'm from Kidlington. I'm already thinking a pre-match drink at the stadium but into town after the match.

I've not bothered with Oxford's city centre for around ten years now.

Having the stadium at Stratfield would encourage me back to the City at the weekends

What would be a good way to sort out the new build along the lines of what @Yellow and blue posted but with the preferedbidders to design the new ground is to come up with around three designs each, then present them to the fans over a period of a few weeks where we could inspect and offer other options to the designs ( hopefully there would be scaled model on view for each of these designs ) so that we could then vote for the winning design or to whittle down to a smaller number of designs for a final viewing and a final vote to select the winning option. At least then the fans are involved.

Do you think many Kidlibgton residents will oppose the new ground going to Stratfield Brake

Has there ever been a new build that's not been opposed by someone? At the end of the day I believe the benefits to the community are extremely strong and the club have obviously done a good job in selling the idea to OCC.

Once built, and as long as it's attractive and a real asset, people will get over it.

There will be an initial fear that it will be like the Kassam Stadium.... concrete everywhere and dripping in P**s.

It's incredible how you, @Colin B and myself have been talking about this exact development for so long and getting dog abuse for it, yet here we all are talking about seat colours and what food we want served!

I can't even be arsed to say "I told you so" because it only encourages the idiots to try to score points against us all. Those who value the input from behind the scenes will hopefully have plenty more to look forward to in the coming days, weeks and months. These are truly exciting times and we're only just starting. Those who have made this personal against me and others have been made to look like the pathetic idiots that they are.

I just hope that we can all come together to show this club, the board, the players, staff and everyone behind the scenes, how much this means to us all. I know it sounds like a broken record, but Sheffield Wednesday is 12 days away, let's turn up in our thousands for OUR club.

The future's bright, the future's YELLOW!!!
"Broken record"? That went out with the Ark..,..........and I should know!!!!

So you would rely on any tom, dick and Harry to vote in the final design. I can just see Lord Sugar backing that idea. Nuts.

There are already a lot of great ideas in this thread from people about what they would like to see from any potential new stadium. What I would like to see is OxVox, as the supporters' trust, produce a 'white paper' addressing all aspects of the new build and gathering supporters' opinions on these areas. As a member of Oxvox I have been in touch with them about this recently.

For example, there could be a section on 'surrounding amenities' with surveys/questionnaires etc showing supporter consensus and preferences (e.g. bars on site? Fan park areas? local beers? etc). Maybe another section on 'stadium infrastructure', again with surveys etc on preferences (e.g. proximity of stands to pitch, safe standing areas etc?).

This then allows us as fans to provide a coherent and fairly unified steer to the club that they can take into account when making decisions on the build.

The risk of us not having this ready and waiting is that fans may be by-passed in any potential decision making process and we miss our once in a lifetime opportunity to get the new home we've all been waiting for. If the club needs to make fairly swift decisions on design (e.g. where foundations for the stands might be required and therefore knock on effects on proximity to the pitch) we'd want them to feel confident that the fans are providing clear and concise feedback on this. If they sense uncertainty from the fans then they'd be within their rights to simply make a decision without consultation.

This isn't to say that fans could insist on every aspect being implemented, but it would be a great way of ensuring as much of what we want is incorporated and provide a clear and concise focus for OxVox and the OUSP to push to the club on a regular basis over the next few years.
